The Borno State government has reintegrated 720 repentant insurgents and more than 3,000 of their family members under the federal government’s Operation Safe Corridor programme.
Governor Babagana Zulum announced the development during a ceremony marking the reintegration exercise on Sunday.
The move is part of ongoing efforts to rehabilitate and resettle former fighters who have voluntarily surrendered and undergone deradicalisation.
Zulum said the reintegration process would help restore peace and normalcy to communities affected by the Boko Haram and ISWAP insurgency.
Officials noted that the programme continues to receive defectors seeking to renounce violence and return to civilian life.
Borno has been the epicentre of the 15-year insurgency that has killed thousands and displaced millions in northeast Nigeria.
The latest batch of reintegrated individuals brings the total number of beneficiaries of the programme in the state to thousands since its inception.
