BREAKING: ANAMBRA STATE HOUSE OF ASSEMBLY, CONFIRMS TC CHAIRMEN AND MEMBERS

The 7th Assembly of the Anambra State House of Assembly has on Friday 29 July, 2022 in an ad hoc session screened and confirmed, Transition Committee (TC) Chairmen and its Members for the 21 Local Government Areas (LGAs) of the state.

You would recall that, the Governor of Anambra State, Prof Charles Chukwuma Soludo in a letter to the State Lawmakers had attached and submitted the names of the TC chairmen. The system for the Transition is according to the relevant provisions of Anambra State Laws and that of the 1999 Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria (as amended), which allows a State Governor to submit the names of those he wishes to be voted into the Local Government offices to the State Assembly for consideration, as Transition Council for the period of 3 months.

The 21 TC Chairmen, who appeared at the hallowed Chambers of the State House of Assembly, were all confirmed. Arising from “the committee of the whole” conducted by the House to screen the chairmen, the Majority Leader Hon Nnamdi Okafor representing Awka South I, moved a motion that the chairmen and members of the local government transition committee stand elected for their various local government areas for the period of three months. Hon John Nwokoye, representing Awka North seconded the motion, which was put into voice vote and adopted by the House.

The Speaker Anambra State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Uche Okafor in his remark after the confirmation charged the newly confirmed TC Chairmen/Members, to key into Prof Soludo’s action plan for Ndi Anambra and to painstakingly go through the exercises aimed at fostering good governance across the local government areas in the state. Okafor tasked them to sue for peace in their respective council areas and urged them to monitor strictly all developmental projects of the Soludo’s administration. This according to him was to ensure effective development knowing full well that LG is the third tier of government designed to address the need of the people at the grassroots, He further enjoined them to initiate programmes and projects that would have direct bearing on the lives of the rural dwellers.

Congratulating once more, Rt. Okafor wished them as he again charged them to show competence and total commitment in the discharge of their duties by creating enabling environment for workers to operate optimally and shun acts capable of retarding the progress of the state.

In a vote of thanks on behave of the newly confirmed Chairmen, one of the TC Chairmen, thanked the House for confirming them. He also expressed gratitude to Governor, Charles Chukwuma Soludo, for finding them worthy to serve and promised that they would abide by the rule governing their institutions and would not betray the trust reposed on them.

The House adjourned to reconvene on Tues, 2nd of August, 2022 at exactly 10am following a motion moved by Majority Leader, Hon Nnamdi Okafor and seconded by Hon. Ejike Okechukwu representing Aniocha II Constituency.
