Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has declared incumbent Governor Biodun Oyebanji of the All Progressives Congress (APC) winner of the Ekiti State governorship election.
Returning Officer Adenike Oladiji announced the result in the early hours of Sunday, saying Oyebanji polled 319,224 votes to comfortably defeat his rivals in the poll conducted across the state’s 16 local government areas.
The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) candidate, Oluwole Oluyede, scored 40,543 votes while Dare Bejide of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) garnered 12,872 votes.
Out of 384,940 accredited voters, 375,777 valid votes were cast with 6,332 rejected ballots, bringing total votes to 382,109.
The declaration came after a largely peaceful election marred by isolated technical issues with the Bimodal Voter Accreditation System (BVAS) and allegations of irregularities, which Oyebanji dismissed as unsubstantiated.
Election observers commended voter turnout and the overall conduct while noting some procedural concerns.
