Bose Ogulu, mother of Grammy-winning Afrobeats star Burna Boy, has spoken about her son’s personality and the steps she takes when his behaviour on social media becomes excessive.
Appearing on Channels Television in an interview with Ebuka Obi-Uchendu, Ogulu said people should make allowances for the singer’s nature, describing artists like him as complex figures whose traits cannot be separated without consequences.
“You can always notice the difference between when I tweet and when Burna tweets. What I’ve come to learn is that artists like him, they’re like tapestry. If you pull at one thread too hard, everything will unravel,” she said.
“So you must make allowances for this person being himself, because it’s the same emotion that what you love about him comes from. Within, we do what we can. I usually grab his phone from him anytime he goes wild on Instagram Live.”
Ogulu’s remarks highlight the contrast between her own more measured online presence and her son’s outspoken style. Burna Boy has repeatedly drawn attention for candid comments during Instagram Live sessions with fans.
She suggested that the same intensity that sometimes sparks controversy is also central to the qualities that have won him a large following.
