Charly Boy Admits 48-year Marriage Has Grown ‘Boring’

Veteran musician and activist Charles Oputa, popularly known as Charly Boy, has candidly described his nearly five-decade marriage as “boring now,” while stressing the constant effort required to sustain long-term unions.

The outspoken entertainer made the remarks during an interview on Yanga 89.9FM, reflecting on his relationship with his wife.

“This year go be my 48 years of marriage to just one woman. Ah, the thing is boring now. It’s boring now. Every day, if every day na Egusi soup you dey eat, you go like am like that?” he said.

Charly Boy likened his marriage to the cartoon duo Tom and Jerry, acknowledging daily quarrels but highlighting their commitment to resolving conflicts.

“All marriages are management, including my own. Me and my wife, we are like Tom and Jerry now,” he stated. “No day we no dey quarrel. No day we no dey settle the quarrel. We go dey fix the quarrel dey go.”

The 76-year-old singer and political activist emphasised that successful marriages involve managing differences and learning to live together despite disagreements. His comments have sparked reactions online, with many Nigerians weighing in on the realities of long-term relationships.
