A Federal High Court on Wednesday adjourned its ruling on 2027 presidential candidate of the African Action Congress (AAC), Omoyele Sowore’s application for the restoration of his bail until June 30.
Justice Mohammed Umar, presiding over the case brought by the Department of State Services (DSS), declined a defence request for Sowore’s temporary release pending the decision.
Sowore, the presidential candidate of the African Action Congress (AAC), faces prosecution over comments describing President Bola Tinubu as “a criminal.”
Sowore’s lawyer, R.O. Adakole, urged the court to exercise its discretion and release the activist to his legal team, arguing he had always appeared in court and never jumped bail.
“Adakole pleaded with Justice Umar to allow Sowore remain with his legal representatives while awaiting the court’s ruling,” according to proceedings.
However, the judge insisted he needed time to study the affidavits and other filed processes before deciding.
The bail was revoked on June 16 after Sowore failed to appear for a scheduled hearing, leading to a bench warrant. The activist had sought the judge’s recusal, alleging bias.
