Singer Kcee has called on fellow musicians to show greater support for the Nollywood film industry. In an interview with HIP TV, he emphasized the importance of reciprocating the backing that actors often give to musicians by promoting their music and participating in dance challenges.
Kcee suggested that artists can contribute to Nollywood’s growth by watching and endorsing Nigerian films, collaborating with actors, and leveraging social media platforms to raise awareness about movie projects.
A devoted fan of Nollywood himself, Kcee shared how he embodies this spirit of support—revealing that he recently allowed a filmmaker to use his track “Cultural Praise” free of charge. He believes there are many ways musicians can elevate the industry, such as featuring actors in music videos and actively promoting Nollywood content online.
“I think it’s high time we [artists] support the movie industry,” Kcee said. “For me, those who know me know I don’t watch any other movies apart from Nollywood. I’m so into Nollywood movies—sometimes people even laugh at me.”
He continued: “A lady recently reached out, asking how much it would cost to use my song ‘Cultural Praise’ in her film. I told her she could use it for free—she can testify. That’s the kind of support we need to give.
“We always want movie stars in our music videos, and some musicians have featured in their films too, but I think we can do more. We need to support them a lot more—even by promoting their movies on our social media. Honestly, I’m not even doing that currently, but I believe it wouldn’t hurt us to start. They often jump on our projects, so why not do the same?”
