Several leading artificial intelligence platforms experienced temporary service disruptions on Thursday morning, affecting users of Claude, ChatGPT, Grok and other tools, before most systems returned to normal by the afternoon, according to monitoring data and company statements.
Thousands of users reported problems accessing the services, Downdetector tracking showed. Reports of issues began declining around 11:50 a.m. Eastern Time, with the bulk of disruptions resolved later in the day.
Anthropic confirmed problems with its Claude platform. “Claude is fully back up after an infrastructure issue caused a partial outage across Claude.ai, Claude Code, Claude Cowork, and the Claude API earlier today. Service was restored at 16:16 UTC,” an Anthropic spokesperson told NewsNation.
OpenAI, Grok, Microsoft Copilot and Cursor also posted status updates acknowledging interruptions. Microsoft Azure, a major cloud provider, recorded a spike in user reports as well. Google did not confirm any outage for Gemini despite some user complaints of access problems.
The underlying cause of the disruptions remains unknown. The incident is developing.
