Meta’s New AI Tool Sparks Privacy Concerns Over Use of Instagram Profiles

Meta has launched Muse Image, its first in-house AI image generation model, enabling users to create visuals based on public Instagram accounts by simply including a username in prompts.

The feature allows Meta AI to draw from publicly available photos of Instagram users, with public accounts included by default unless opted out. Meta stated that account owners are not notified when their content is used for such generations.

Users can disable the option via Instagram settings under Sharing and Reuse to prevent their posts and reels from being utilised. The rollout has ignited debate over consent and the use of publicly shared material by AI systems.

Meta described the tool as expanding creative possibilities while emphasising user controls for those seeking greater privacy. The development reflects growing integration of AI with social media platforms.
