MTN Nigeria Names Five New Directors, Including Former Etisalat Executives

MTN Nigeria Communications Plc has appointed five new directors to its board, effective December 1, as the telecommunications company seeks to strengthen its operations and strategic direction.

The appointees include former Etisalat Nigeria executives Ibrahim Dikko and Boye Olusanya, who join as independent non-executive directors. Corporate governance expert Fabian Ajogwu, Imoni Akpofure and Lwazi Bam were named non-executive directors.

The appointments were disclosed in a regulatory filing signed by company secretary Uto Ukpanah on Tuesday.

“The new Directors are expected to bring their wealth of experience and expertise to enhance Board operations and contribute to the Company’s growth and future direction,” MTN Nigeria said.

Dikko brings more than three decades of experience in banking, telecommunications, ICT and regulatory advisory. He previously served as vice president of regulatory and corporate affairs at EMTS Limited, which operated as Etisalat Nigeria, from 2007 to 2017.

Olusanya, currently leading FMN Holdings Limited, has over 25 years of executive experience across consumer goods, agriculture, telecommunications, technology, energy and financial services.

Ajogwu, a Senior Advocate of Nigeria and professor of corporate governance at Lagos Business School, has practised law for 35 years and helped draft Nigeria’s early corporate governance codes.

Akpofure has nearly three decades of experience in finance, infrastructure and sustainability across Sub-Saharan Africa, including senior roles at the International Finance Corporation and British International Investment.

Bam, who joined MTN Group as group chief risk officer in June, previously served as chief executive of Deloitte Africa and Deloitte Southern Africa.

MTN Nigeria, which launched in 2001, serves more than 94 million customers in the country and operates in 19 markets across Africa and the Middle East.
