NFF Sacks Women’s National Team Coaches after Missing World Cup

The Nigeria Football Federation has dismissed the entire technical crew of the Super Falcons after the team failed to qualify for the 2027 FIFA Women’s World Cup.

The NFF Executive Committee ordered all members of the coaching staff to step down with immediate effect on Monday, following a disappointing campaign that included an early exit from the Women’s Africa Cup of Nations and defeat in the subsequent World Cup playoffs.

“The Executive Committee of the Nigeria Football Federation has asked members of the technical crew of the @NGSuper_Falcons to step down with immediate effect,” the federation announced.

The nine-time African champions suffered their earliest-ever exit from the continental tournament, losing 1-0 to Cameroon in the quarter-finals. That result eliminated any chance of automatic World Cup qualification and forced Nigeria into a playoff against South Africa.

In the decisive playoff match, the Super Falcons lost 2-1 to Banyana Banyana, ending their hopes of reaching the 2027 tournament in Brazil.

The failure marks a significant setback for Nigeria, a regular participant at the Women’s World Cup that had never previously missed the global event. The decision to remove the technical crew, led by coach Justin Madugu, follows a campaign that fell short both at the Africa Cup of Nations and in the final qualifying stage.
