NLC Strike Gains Momentum in Ebonyi State

The nationwide strike declared by the Nigeria Labour Congress, (NLC), on Tuesday, witnessed compliance, as commercial banks, government institutions and the State High Court in Ebonyi State, South East Nigeria, observed the action.

According to AIT who monitored the situation in Abakaliki, the state capital, observed that at the State High Court, judicial workers were prevented from entering their offices, and commercial banks in the capital city remained shut at 9 am.

Some of the civil servants and bank customers who were affected by the strike said that the Nigerian government should listen to the yearnings of the NLC, regretting the molestation of the NLC President.

The Ebonyi State NLC Chairperson, Prof. Ogugua Egwu, confirmed to AIT through a telephone call that the strike is in total compliance, as it recorded 90%, noting that he is at the Alex Ekwueme federal institution to enforce compliance.
