Supporters of former governors Peter Obi and Rabiu Kwankwaso have formally launched the Obi-Kwankwaso (OK) Movement, a new nationwide political platform aimed at forging a united opposition front ahead of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) presidential primary.
The group announced its structures in Abuja on Monday, claiming it has already established presence across Nigeria’s 36 states and the Federal Capital Territory with appointed coordinators.
National Publicity Secretary Justin Ijeh described the movement as a broad coalition drawing from the Obidient Movement, Kwankwasiyya, the New Nigeria People’s Party and the ADC itself.
“Nigeria stands at a defining crossroads. Today, as our people endure the weight of unprecedented economic hardship, the soaring cost of living, and the persistent shadow of insecurity, the Obi–Kwankwaso (OK) Movement formally unveils its national and state structures,” Ijeh said in a statement.
“This is more than a political milestone; it is the birth of a coordinated, nationwide engine for systemic reform and national rebirth,” he added.
Ijeh stressed the movement’s inclusive nature and rejection of divisive politics. “The Movement is a home for all well-meaning Nigerians. We reject the politics of tribalism, regionalism, and religious sentiment that have long been used to keep our people divided while the nation falters,” he declared.
He further announced plans for state chapter inaugurations in the coming weeks and issued an open invitation to Nigerians seeking change. “Through solidarity, purposeful leadership, and the courage to demand better, we will prevail. The structures are set, the vision clear, the movement is here and together, we will make Nigeria OK,” Ijeh noted.
National Coordinator of the Obidient Movement, Dr Yunusa Tanko, confirmed alignment between the new group and existing Obi support structures. “Yes, Ijeh and others are some of our people. There is no division. Both the OK Movement and The Village Boys Movement are working for the same purpose,” he said.
The launch comes amid intensifying competition within the ADC, where former Vice President Atiku Abubakar has declared his presidential ambition and refused to step aside for other aspirants. Speculation continues over a possible Obi-Kwankwaso joint ticket, which supporters believe could command strong grassroots backing.
