The Senator representing Kogi West Senatorial District, Sunday Karimi, has noted that the former Governor of Kogi State, Yahaya Bello has been vindicated following the ongoing controversies involving Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan.
Addressing journalists in Lokoja on Sunday, Karimi stated that recent events involving the the Senator representing Kogi Central have vindicated Bello.
Karimi said Bello could not be blamed for the past disputes between him and Akpoti-Uduaghan before the National Assembly elections.
The Senator was reacting to the face-off between Senator Akpoti-Uduaghan and Senate President Godswill Akpabio, which has sparked controversy.
“Former Governor Yahaya Bello must have seen it coming.”
“Other Kogi lawmakers and I played major roles in ensuring that the State was not brought to ridicule. But no amount of reasoning could prevail. Our intervention was rebuffed.”
“All our admonition to her fell on deaf ears. One can, therefore, come to terms with the fact that former Gov Yahaya Bello saw it coming.
Karimi, therefore, described the situation in the Senate as an embarrassment to Kogi and Nigeria. This is as he blamed Akpoti-Uduaghan for disregarding advice from colleagues.
He lamented that, despite sincere appeals and advice, which he said fell on deaf ears, it was unfortunate that the needless embarrassment could still be brought to the State and the Nation at large.
Recall that the National Assembly has been embroiled in a controversy following allegations of sexual harassment by Akpoti-Uduaghan against the Senate President, Akpabio.
Senator Akpoti-Uduaghan is serving six months suspension for refusing to adhere to Senate rules during altercations with the Senate President.
