Strike: Litigation Won’t Send Lecturers Back To Classroom, Youth Group Tells Buhari

A youth-led organisation, Africa Youth Growth Foundation(AYGF), has advised the federal government to rescind the decision of taking striking university lecturers to the National Industrial Court.

ANN had reported that the the Federal Government took the decision after its talk with the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) collapsed.

However, at a press conference on Wednesday, the AYGF advised FG to return to negotiation table rather than resolving to litigation.

In his remarks, the executive director of the Foundation, Dr. Arome Salifu, said “Litigation is not the best option for both students, lecturers and the government because it will take a longer life span due to administrative procedures of court and at the end it won’t yield necessary results.

“Both parties should go back to the negotiation table so that the matter can be resolved in time as lecturers are leaving the country in droves while students are gradually engaging in criminality due to idleness.”

The ED further urged students to in the interim, register for online courses to update themselves, acquire skills and become productive while negotiations continue as the strike serves as one opportunity for self discover.

Dr. Salifu added that the AYGF is opening its doors to building capacity of students to engage them while the strike is still ongoing.
