* Peace and unity topped agenda as Association of Yoruba Staff, Nnamdi Azikiwe University Awka celebrates its maiden End of the Year Party, with a call on all members to work tirelessly to keep Nigeria as one indivisible nation. The occasion, which attracted people from various ethnic nationalities, also featured conferment of excellence service awards on eminent Yoruba sons plying their trade in the state including the Commissioner of Police, Mr Aderemi Adeoye, the Sector Commander, Federal Road Safety Corps, FRSC, Mr Adeoye Irelewuyi, a Controller News with the Federal Radio Corporation of Nigeria, Deacon Alfred Ajayi, and Dele Ajayi of TVC among others.
* Professor Chukwuma Soludo has called on all citizens of the state to join his administration to continue to render selfless service to the poor and forgotten people in Anambra. Addressing a huge audience at the Harvest and Thanksgiving of Our Saviour’s Church, the Governor spoke candidly about the plight of those who live in poverty, and urged everyone to do their part to help. Soludo said that there are still thousands of families who struggle to put food on the table and keep a roof over their heads, saying that it was the right time to rise up and focus on the most important issue, by coming together as a community to lend a hand to those in need.
* The Solution Promoters’ Forum have thrown weight behind the seedling policy of the Governor Chukwuma Soludo-led administration. The Group which is committed to engendering good governance and shaping governance, explores ways to aid government achieve tangible results that will benefit the citizens on a sustainable basis. ANN recall that since inception, the present government has distributed over one million palm and coconut seedlings, among other agricultural policies.
* Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, (NSCDC) Anambra State Command has reacted to the recent alleged assault on Mr. Izunna Okafor, an Awka based journalist. The State Commandant of Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, Anambra State Command, Mr. Edwin Osuala, found the report unacceptable and has ordered the Deputy Commandant in charge of Investigation and Intelligence Department to immediately commence full scale investigation into the matter with a view to bringing anyone found complicit to book.
* Mr. Christian Aburime, Press Secretary to Governor Chukwuma Soludo has described the partnership between journalists and Anambra State government as imperative and urged journalists to consider the interest of the citizens and the state government when publishing their reports. Aburime while speaking during the annual end of year event of the Correspondents’ Chapel, Anambra State Chapter (Nigeria Union of Journalists), held in Awka during the weekend, identified journalists and the journalism profession as pivotal to development of the society. According to the Press Secretary, Governor Soludo appreciates the role of the media in development work and acknowledged the hazards faced by journalists in their line of work.
* The Principal of Metu Memorial Secondary School, Onitsha, Dr. Fidelia Ogili has been asked to step down as the principal of the school for going against the mandate of Governor Chukwuma Soludo on free and compulsory Education for JSS students of the school. This is contained in a release signed by the Chairman Post Primary Schools Service Commission, PPSSC Awka, Professor Nkechi Ikediugwu. According to the release it was gathered that on a PTA meeting that was held on 23rd November,2023, she asked the parents to pay one thousand seven hundred naira each for the payment of PTA teachers, students whose parents were absent from the PTA meeting were asked to pay one thousand naira each while students whose parents were absent from the school orientation programme were levied one thousand naira each as well.
* The Anambra State Governor, Prof. Chukwuma Soludo, has extended his sincere condolences to the family of the late Inspector Lucky Okey who just passed on. A statement signed by his Press Secretary Mr Christian Aburime said before his death, Mr. Okey was a police officer who served as part of the governor’s security convoy until he was involved in an unfortunate accident in August this year. The statement however, expressed concern over claims made in an online report by one ‘Marshall’ regarding the sad incident involving Mr. Okey.
* Pedestrians and traders in Onitsha, the commercial hub of Anambra State, have raised alarm over what described as a new method of robbery being used to dispossess unsuspecting members of the public of their hard-earned money and other belongings in a twinkle of an eye. The new robbery method, according to them, is codedly and honourably done by some uniformed men (usually dressed in yellow) and who claim to be working for the state government.
