* The State Commandant of Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, Anambra State Command, Maku Olatunde, has cautioned members of the public to refrain from scooping Premium Motor Spirit (PMS) popularly referred to as fuel from overturned petrol tanker truck, citing the devastating consequences of such actions.
Commandant Maku stated this during his tactical digest meeting with supervisory officers at the State Command Headquarters Awka.
This warning comes on the heels of a tragic tanker explosion that occurred at Dikko Junction, Gurara Local Government Area of Niger State that claimed several lives and left many others injured.
Maku described the incident as devastating, noting that most of the casualties recorded were individuals attempting to collect Premium Motor Spirit( PMS) from the overturned fuel- laden tanker.
* A Patron, Nigeria Union of Journalist, NUJ, Anambra State Chapter, who is an indigene of Neni, Anaocha Local Government Area, Anambra State, Chief Chidi Nwokediuko(Esq), has been conferred with the highest prestigious chieftaincy title of Ozo Ezeana by Ndi Nze na Ozo Society of Neni Community.
Nwokediuko, who was the former President General, (PG), Odume Obosi, Idemili North Local Government Area, Anambra State was said to have made his mark in various fields of human endeavours which earned him the prestigious Ozo Ezeana title.
A philanthropist to the core, according to a veteran legal practitioner, Morris Efobi, Nwokediuko has headed so many organizations prior to furthering his educational pursuit and graduated as a legal practitioner.
* In an effort to enhance the aesthetic appeal and infrastructure of the Onitsha North Local Government Area, Mayor Nweze Tony Nwora has initiated a comprehensive facelift project at the Onitsha North Secretariat.
The ongoing renovation work is aimed at transforming the entire landscape of the secretariat, making it a more beautiful, secure, and functional environment.
As part of the project, the administrative buildings and offices within the secretariat are being renovated.The surroundings are also being improved, with a focus on creating a clean and serene environment.
* The Chairmanship candidate of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ)
Anambra State Chapter, Comrade Odogwu Emeka Odogwu PhD, along side his campaign team on Monday January 20th visited Anambra Broadcasting Service (ABS) Chapel in Awka.
Dr. Odogwu, who is the current NUJ Chairman in his speech promised that there would be more trainings and empowerment of NUJ members, if re-elected. He commended all members of NUJ for their support in the past three years, calling on ABS Chapel members to vote him back for second term.
The NUJ Chairman while soliciting for votes and support, beckoned on all ABS Chapel members of vote him again on Friday 24th January at the election which will hold at the press center.
He expressed confidence that he will win the election and that he will achieve some of the things he failed to achieve in his first tenue.
* The Chairman of Idemili South local government area, Hon. Mrs. Amaka Obi has inspected crops in Idemili South healthy living garden.
The Idemili South Mayor while speaking during the inspection said the project is
inline with Anambra State First Lady, Dr. Mrs Nonye Soludo’s initiative to equip women with essential skills in sustainable organic farming practices, empowering them to contribute significantly to food security while providing avenues for economic empowerment for their various families
“I was inspired by the variety of crops under cultivation. This garden symbolizes the potential of every home in the council area to contribute to the well-being of our families through sustainable agriculture.
I am pleased to advocate for the cultivation of home gardens across Idemili South local government area. * Labour Party governorship aspirant, John Nwosu, has lambasted Governor Chukwuma Soludo’s administration for its handling of insecurity in Anambra State.
In a statement issued on Wednesday, Nwosu described the current state of insecurity in Anambra as “topical and extremely dangerous,” noting that it reflects poorly on the state and negatively impacts the quality of life, commerce, and tourism.
Nwosu faulted the Soludo administration for failing to meet its responsibility to protect Anambra citizens and visitors, stating that the government has neither applied soft power nor hard power to address the challenges confronting the state.
* The frontline candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC), in the November 2025 Anambra State Governorship Election, Sir Paul Chukwuma has commended the Nigeria Governors Forum (NGF) for supporting the presidential tax reforms.
Chukwuma made the commendation when he paid a courtesy call to the Vice President of Nigeria, His Excellency, Alhaji Kashim Shettima, at his home in Maiduguri.
Sir Chukwuma said that the decision of the Nigeria Governors Forum is patriotic and commendable.
The APC Governorship candidate also extolled the Vice President, Alhaji Kashim Shettima, and Borno State Governor, Prof Babagana Zulum, for their role in the appreciable pace of infrastructure development in the state.
* Concerned Ndigbo have articulated agenda for the new President General of Ohanaeze Ndigbo Worldwide, Senator John Azuta-Mbata following his recent emergence as the leader of the Igbo sociopolitical group.
Speaking to newsmen, the Anambra State Chairman of Ohanaeze Ndigbo, Mr Chukwuma Okpalaezeukwu said that the new leadership is a testament of hope given the challenges that seem to be ravaging the organization.
Mr. Okpalaezeukwu stated that the new leadership should work towards changing the narrative for Ndigbo by speaking with one voice and ensure the release of Mr Nnamdi Kanu, as his continued detention is a deep concern to Ndigbo.
* The People’s Democratic Party (PDP) in Otolo Ward 1, Nnewi North Local Government Area of Anambra State, has expelled Prince Samben Nwosu, a former Federal Commissioner, Public Complaints Commission (PCC); and front line senatorial aspirant for the forthcoming Anambra South senatorial by-election under the platform of the party.
Nwosu, who was expelled over allegations of fraud and anti party activities, was subsequently directed to return every property of the party in his possession to the chairman or secretary of the party in the ward without delay.
The letter with the caption: “Letter Of Expulsion From Our Great Party, PDP,” dated January 17, 2025; signed by PDP chairman and secretary in the ward, was made available to newsmen in Nnewi.
* Some residents of Onitsha, the commercial capital of Anambra, have called on the Commissioner of Police in the state to take urgent steps to address the deteriorating security in the town.
The residents decried what they described as resurgence of crime especially in the Fegge area of Onitsha.
A trader, Mr. Chidozie said the case of one-chance robbery had become rampant as the criminals operated without resistance. He maintained that it was dangerous to move about anytime from 6pm because of the lack of presence of security personnel.
