# No fewer than six buildings have been destroyed and several families displaced by severe gully erosion ravaging Ibolo community in Oraifite, Ekwusigo Local Government Area of Anambra State.

One of the victims, Mr. Edmond Anazodo, attributed the disaster to poor drainage channeling during the construction of the Onitsha–Owerri Road.

He said the erosion had swallowed six of his houses, destroyed his land, and washed away all his belongings, including his family’s clothing, leaving them homeless.

Anazodo appealed to both the Anambra State and Federal Governments to intervene urgently and save affected residents from further devastation.

His brother, Mr. Nonso Anazodo, whose storey building was also destroyed, recounted his losses and similarly called on Governor Chukwuma Soludo and the Federal Government to provide immediate assistance to halt the advancing erosion.

After inspecting the affected areas, the Anambra State Commissioner for Environment, Barrister Clem Aguiyi, blamed the erosion on poor engineering and structural decisions made in diverting flood channels during the construction of the Onitsha–Owerri Road. He warned that the highway itself is now under serious threat if urgent remedial measures are not taken.

Bar. Aguiyi stressed the need for environmentalists, city planners, and architects to rethink road construction practices, floodwater management, and environmental protection across the state.

Also speaking, the local government Chairmen of Ekwusigo Local Government Area, Hon. Chimezie Obi, commended the Commissioner’s prompt visit to assess the damage and appealed to both the state and federal governments for urgent intervention.

The Mayor noted that the scale of the disaster is beyond the capacity of the local government and warned that immediate action is needed to prevent further destruction of lives and property.

# Commissioner for Lands, Anambra State Prof. Offornze Dike Amucheazi (SAN) has charged staff of the ministry to continue putting in their best in the discharge of their duties.

The Commissioner gave the charge during the July edition of Staff Monthly General Meeting of the ministry.

Prof. Amucheazi while calling on the staff to remain uncompromising, commended them for their unwavering commitment in delivering on the vision and mandate of Governor Chukwuma Soludo-led government on land administration in the State.

# The Anambra State Ministry of Health has intensified routine monitoring and supervisory visits to government-owned hospitals across the state to ensure healthcare workers comply with official duty schedules and maintain quality service delivery.

The exercise, led by the Director of Medical Services, Dr. Ugochukwu Chukwulobelu, is part of Governor Chukwuma Soludo’s efforts to strengthen the state’s healthcare system through improved accountability and professionalism.

During a visit to General Hospital, Umueri, the monitoring team observed that several staff members were absent from duty as of about 10:00 a.m., while some failed to wear official identity cards.

Speaking after the exercise, Dr. Chukwulobelu said the routine monitoring was designed to ensure healthcare workers remain committed to their duties while guaranteeing quality healthcare services for residents of the state.

He warned that absenteeism, lateness, abandonment of duty posts, and failure to wear official identity cards are violations of the Public Service Rules and would attract appropriate administrative sanctions.

# Shanahan University, Onitsha has announced the appointment of Professor Dominic Nonso Obielosi, a Catholic priest and distinguished scholar, as the Acting Vice Chancellor of the institution.

The appointment takes immediate effect pending the appointment of a substantive Vice Chancellor and is aimed at strengthening the university’s academic leadership and advancing its vision of excellence in teaching, research, and character formation.

Prof.Obielosi is a seasoned academic and administrator with decades of experience in higher education, research, mentorship, and institutional management. He has made significant contributions to scholarship and has played key roles in the formation of students and the development of academic programmes.

His appointment is expected to further consolidate Shanahan University’s commitment to providing quality education rooted in sound moral values, academic excellence, and service to society in line with its Catholic identity.

Members of the university community, as well as other stakeholders in the education sector, have welcomed the appointment and expressed confidence in his ability to provide purposeful leadership.

They also pledged their support and cooperation as he assumes responsibility for steering the institution e of growth and development.

# Anambra Police command has reannounced the ban on the use of vehicles with tintented vehicles and covered plate numbers across the state. This was announced on the command’s official Facebook account today.

The Anambra Police command maintained that unregistered vehicles, covered plate numbers, as well as tinted vehicles poses a threat to the security and safety of Ndi Anambra.

According to the Anambra- police command, there have been incidents recorded overtime on how crim!nals use these categories of vehicles to wreak havoc in Anambra state, hence use such kind of vehicle in Anambra is no longer allowed.

# ‌‎ Rail, ferry, air transport expansion, and an urban tram network have been identified as priority projects for Anambra State under the African Development Bank (AfDB)-supported Awka City Diagnostic Study.

‎The priorities emerged during a strategic engagement between the Anambra State Ministry of Transport and international consultants from Acciona Engineering, Spain, who are conducting the study under the AfDB City Action Plan to guide future development interventions in the state capital and beyond.

‎Speaking at the ministry of Transport, the Commissioner for Transport, Hon. Edward Obiefuna Ibuzo, said the study seeks to identify Awka’s most pressing needs and high-impact projects across transportation, infrastructure, housing, land use, environment, power, tourism, and waste management.

‎Team leader and urban planner Elisa Mussolettini described transportation as a key driver of economic growth and urban development. She said the engagement was designed to assess mobility challenges, infrastructure gaps, and investment opportunities to support long-term growth in Anambra.

‎Discussions centred on the need for an integrated transport system linking road, rail, air, and water. Stakeholders highlighted rail development as a cornerstone of the state’s long-term mobility strategy, building on the 2024 Draft Rail Transport Master Plan.

‎Participants also identified Anambra’s waterways as a key asset and explored ferry services to improve connectivity, reduce pressure on roads, and boost economic activity in riverine communities.

‎The meeting further stressed the need to strengthen operations at the Anambra International Cargo and Passenger Airport through increased airline services and improved connectivity to support trade, tourism, and investment.

# Multimillionaire business mogul cum candidate of the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) for Dunukofia, Njikoka and Anaocha 2027 House of Representatives election, Hon. Chukwudi Oli popularly known as Oba Ezeafia, has made it abundantly clear that the people of his federal constituency will see the difference between what he mentioned as Fanta and Coke, if he is elected next year.

Oli who has been issued his certificate of return, following his massive victory at the APGA primary elections, maintained that it would be a new dawn and a new era of people-oriented representation at the Green Chambers because Dunukofia, Njikoka and Anaocha would experience the positive impacts of his stewardship at the National Assembly.

He said he was not concerned about the opposition in his constituency but very particular about what he will do for the people of Dunukofia, Njikoka and Anaocha (DNA), stressing that it is left for DNA people to choose between him and the opposition.

# The Commissioner for Women Affairs and Social Development, Anambra State, Mrs. Chinyere Esther Onyekesi has continued to receive congratulatory visits from various groups and individuals since assuming office.

Among the visiting delegations were the Divine Ladies/Nonyelu Solution Ihiala Chapter, led by Mrs. Nkechi Nnaemeka (Lady Sample); the National Council of Women Societies (NCWS), led by Mrs. Chikaodili; as well as other women groups, stakeholders, and well-wishers who came to honour and felicitate with the Commissioner.

# The Anambra State Ministry of Transport organized an orientation programme for Park Monitors and Enforcement Team members to strengthen professionalism, accountability, operational efficiency, and effective transport management statewide.

represented Commissioner for Transport,
highlighted the importance of park monitors in maintaining order and efficiency.

He explained that park monitors are responsible for supervising daily operations, verifying registrations and approvals, ensuring compliance with government directives, documenting activities, and reporting violations for appropriate actions.

Mr. Obiora stressed that the ministry expects park monitors to remain dependable partners in promoting safety, discipline, transparency, and effective service delivery across motor parks and transport facilities.

# The Police Service Commission (PSC) has promoted the Commissioner of Police in Anambra State, CP Ikioye Orutugu, to the rank of Assistant Inspector General of Police (AIG).

The promotion followed CP Orutugu’s successful performance in the Commission’s written examination and oral interview conducted at the PSC Corporate Headquarters in Abuja.

The decision was approved during the Commission’s plenary meeting held on Wednesday, July 1, 2026, at its headquarters in Abuja.

Two other senior police officers serving in Anambra State also received promotions. Former Assistant Commissioner of Police in Zone 13, Regina Mbanefo, was elevated to the rank of Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP), while the Divisional Police Officer (DPO) of the Central Police Station, Onitsha, CSP Nnamdi Lotanna Anabike, was promoted to the rank of Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP).

Speaking after the promotions, the Chairman of the Police Service Commission, retired Deputy Inspector General of Police Hashimu Salihu Argungu, congratulated the officers and urged them to discharge their new responsibilities with honesty, transparency and accountability.
