# The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) in Anambra, has urged motorists to put their vehicles in good condition before plying the roads, as the rainy season intensifies.
Anambra State’s Sector Commander of FRSC, Bridget Asekhauno, gave the advice on Wednesday in Awka.
CC. Asekhauno warned that roads become increasingly slippery during rainfall, making careful driving essential.
The FRSC boss expressed concern over continued use of worn-out tyres by some drivers, noting that such tyres lose proper grip on the road surface.
According to Asekhauno, worn-out tyres reduce effective contact with the road, increasing the risk of skidding or loss of control when brakes are applied.
She consequently, harped on the need for motorists to slow down significantly when roads are wet.
# As politicians jostle for the 2027 general elections, citizens of Ihiala LGA, have drawn attention to the perilous and very devastating state of Uzoigwe-Umudara-Ubahuekwem road, describing it as a mortuary because of the fatalities recorded on the road.
The very terrible nature of the road has compelled vehicles and motorcycles to navigate bush paths to access their destinations thereby exposing them to dangers of kidnappings, armed-robbery attacks and other criminal likelihoods.
Uzoigwe-Umudara-Ubahuekwem road said to be very strategic as it connected the Onitsha-Owerri federal highway, is now a shadow of itself because it is no longer useful to the people due to the level of dilapidation and decay.
A community dweller noted that in spite of efforts by an organization called Ihekamba Foundation which usually carry out palliative works on the road, the road, according to him, is a more than a nightmare now as it requires a more capital intensive approach to tackle, which he believes only government can undertake.
Another community dweller Mr. Herbert Nwabaso who hails from Umuike Ubahuekwem told this journalist that the deplorable conditions of the Uzoigwe-Umudara-Ubahuekwem road has posed unimaginable hardships on the people because they no longer access the major road instead they use bush paths to go to their houses which often took longer time.
# The Speaker of Anambra State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Somtochukwu Udeze has congratulated Amb. Bianca Ojukwu on her appointment as new Minister of Foreign Affairs by President Bola Tinubu, describing the appointment as deserving and expected.

# The Chairman of Anambra State Football Association and former Super Eagles defender Chikelue Iloenyosi has thrown his hat into the ring for a seat on the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) Board ahead of the forthcoming elections.
The ex-international, who currently chairs the Board of Trustees of the All Nigeria Football Players Union, made his declaration from South East London.
Iloenyosi is vying to represent the South East zone. He framed his bid as a call to service, stressing that he is not desperate for the position.
If elected, Iloenyosi plans to prioritize three areas: building stronger administrative structures, expanding youth development programs, and improving player welfare across the South East.
Iloenyosi also appealed for cohesion among football stakeholders, saying collective support is key to driving the sport forward in Nigeria.
# A bill to provide for the establishment of Commuters Manifest Scheme in Anambra State and for other releated matters, has been passed into law.
The bill which was sponsored by the Chief Whip and member representing Ihiala one constituency, Barr. Jude Ngobili, was passed into law after scaling through third reading on Thursday.
Hon. Ngobili maintained that the essence of the law is to keep data of passengers coming in and out of Anambra State.
The lawmaker noted that in cases of accident or attacks, victims can be tracked and compensated.
Anambra Assembly Speaker, Rt. Hon. Somtochukwu Udeze who presided plenary, commended Ngobili for sponsoring the bill, noted that the law is coming at the right time.
The Speaker maintained that the law will take effect from May 25th 2026.
# The Rector, Federal Polytechnic Oko, Dr. Chioma Irene Awuzie, has formally inaugurated the newly elected Heads of Departments and Deans of Schools.

# Dr Mrs Elsie Nonyelum Nwokolo, has emerged the new Chairperson of Women Wing of the Christian Association of Nigeria, WOWICAN. Anambra State chapter.
Dr Nwokolo is the wife of the Bishop on the Niger, Anglican Communion, Rt. Rev. Dr Owen Nwokolo.

# Anambra State Hospital Administrator, Dr. Frank Ifeanaeme, has cautioned health professionals against holding dual government jobs while receiving full-time salaries from both positions.
Dr. Ifeanaeme issued the warning during a meeting with Heads of State Hospitals at his office in Enugwu-Ukwu, Njikoka Local Government Area of the state.
He expressed concern that some doctors, nurses, and other healthcare workers are simultaneously employed in government service while also participating in residency programmes.
Ifeanaeme stressed that no nurse, pharmacist, or other health worker should be employed in both state and federal civil service roles while drawing full salaries from each. He directed that the names of those involved be submitted for appropriate disciplinary action.
# The Organized Labour in Anambra State has paid homage to the newly appointed Secretary to the State Government, SSG, Mrs. Chiamaka Nnake, urging her to place Anambra first in all her activities.
According to the leadership of the organized labour led by Comrade Humphrey Emeka Nwafor, for the Nigeria Labour Congress, NLC; and Comrade Chris Ogbonna, for the Trade Union Congress; anything short of Anambra’s growth, development and progress is out of her schedules.
Comrade Nwafor urged the new SSG to ensure Anambra workers had a premium place in the affairs of the government by interfacing directly with Organized Labour in all situations.
In her response, the SSG, Mrs Nnake, expressed appreciation to the organized labour for the courtesy visit and expressed the hope that she would work harmoniously with labour leaders for the good of the state in accordance with what she described as the transformative leadership of her principal, Governor Chukwuma Soludo.
# # A legal luminary, Barr Akachukwu Maduakolam have formally declared his intention to represent Ihiala federal constituency at the House of Representatives.
Barr. Maduakolam made the declaration during a stakeholders meeting of the federal constituency which held at Ihiala LGA Council Secretariat.
The meeting availed the frontline House of Representatives aspirant to highlight his agenda for the constituents.
Maduakolam assured ndi-Ihiala that he would give them a quality and responsive representation everyone of them would be proud of.
