*  The Anambra State House of Assembly at their recent plenary effected a reshuffle of some key principal officers following the resolution of the APGA caucus of the 7th assembly as was read by the Speaker, Rt. Hon. Uche Victor Okafor. The Speaker announced  Hon. Pete Ibida as the new Majority leader, Hon. Beverly Ikpeazu Nkemdiche as Chief Whip and Hon. Author Ifeanyi Chiekwue as the deputy Chief Whip.

* The Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of ANSIPPA, Mr. Mark Okoye said there are so many socio-economic capacities that are yet to be fully harnessed, revealing that partnering the grassroots and supporting the present administration on its five pillars of development will attract investors and make Anambra State great.

* The member representing Idemili North Constituency at the Anambra Assembly, Hon. Ifeanyi Chiekwue and the TC Chairman of Anaocha LGA Chief Gerald Ozoh have applauded Chief Ikenna Okafor for investing in education by building a modern female hostel at Community Secondary School, Akwaeze. In their separate interviews, they commended Governor Soludo’s ‘adopt a school initiative’ as a major step towards improving standard of education in the state, calling on other wealthy individuals in various communities to emulate Chief Okafor in ensuring quality teaching and learning in their localities.

 * Anambra State House of Assembly has commended Governor Chukwuma Soludo, security agencies for their relentless efforts in keeping Anambra State safe. The Minority Leader, Rt. Hon. Onyebuchi Ofor before seconding the motion for adjournment, raised a matter of urgent public importance. He stated that the improvement and achievements recorded  security-wise was commendable. 

* The ABU Mmaduabuchukwu Foundation has marked its sixth-year anniversary with empowerment, scholarship and presentation of educational materials to many beneficiaries. Items that were given out to some beneficiaries during the anniversary celebration included; sewing machines, hair dryers, laptops and bags of rice among others.

* The immediate past vice president of Rotary International, Dr Yinka Babalola has charged Rotary leaders to always aspire to make a positive impact wherever they are. Addressing members of alumni of Rotary leadership institute during the 2023 Rotary International district 9142 conference in Awka, Dr Babalola maintained that leadership is not all about position but about solving problems.

* The Anambra State Commissioner for Environment, Engineer Felix Odimegwu has directed residents, shop owners, churches, banks, schools operating in the state to commence full desilting of drainages around their vicinity in order to check flooding. The commissioner gave the directive in Awka while speaking with journalists shortly after inspecting flood channels around Aroma, Ifite Awka-Amansea road.

* A speeding truck driver has killed a male pedestrian at the Immigration junction on the Awka-Onitsha Expressway Anambra. Mr Adeoye Irelewuyi, the Sector Commander of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) in the State, confirmed the incident to ANN in Awka. Irelewuyi said the accident, which occurred at about 8.15 a.m., was caused by unnecessary overspeeding and loss of control.

* At last, the ancient community of Awka, the Anambra State capital, will soon hold the most popular festival called, ‘Egwu- Imoka’  (Dance of the gods). The festival was last held in 2020, following the assassination of the acting chief priest of the deity, Ezemuo Ikegbunam (Eze-Imoka) by unknown gunmen. Speaking on the plan to revive the Imoka Festival, which is usually performed in Awka’s first lunar month, the ‘Akadiani Awka’ (the principal custodian of traditions of the community), Patrick Nweke, disclosed that the anger of the ancestors, necessitating the neglect of Igu Ofo Isi Aro prayer rituals since 2016, and new Awka calendar dating (Iguaro Oka) in 2021, resulted in unwarranted killings and kidnappings, among others, in the community.

* As the first phase of the ongoing free cervical cancer screening and treatment programme in Anambra State begins to wind down, the Governor’s wife, Nonye Soludo has urged more women to come out and take advantage of the exercise. The governor’s wife who stated this in Awka while assessing the exercise so far, said that though an appreciable number of women have shown interest in the ongoing programme, she still looked forward to seeing more women and girls take part in it before June 2023 deadline.
