* The wife of the governor of Anambra state, Mrs Nonye Soludo, has flagged off the free Human Papilloma Virus (HPV) vaccination in the state and subsequent introduction into the state routine immunization. The official flag off which took place at the Michael Tansi Secondary School, Aguleri, Anambra East Local Government Area, marked a more determined step by the government to take out cervical cancer from the state beginning from teenage girls. The HPV vaccine, which will be available at Primary Health Centres, PHCs, and public health facilities across the state, would be given to girls from ages 9 to 14.
* A bill for a law to establish Anambra State Oil and Gas Producing Area’s Development Commission (ANSOPADEC) bill and for related matters has been passed into law at plenary. After considering the report of the joint committee on Petroleum and Mineral Resources, and committee on Environment on ANSOPADEC bill, the Majority Leader Hon. Ikenna Ofodeme moved a motion for the third reading and was seconded by the Deputy Minority Leader Hon. Nobel Igwe. Anambra Assembly Speaker Rt. Hon. Somtochukwu Udeze appreciated the lawmakers in making sure that the law was passed. The Speaker said the law will come into force from the 27th of June 2024.
* Anambra Commissioner of Police, CP Nnaghe Obono Itam has sustained advocacy for a Policing Plan that is intelligent-driven, technologically supportive, and tactically-led operations as he lectures and takes briefs from the Eight Area Commanders, Fifty-three Divisional Police Officers, Tactical Commanders, and Sectional Heads of the Command. During the lecture, the CP reviewed the Policing plan and provides a guide in some areas on personnel positioning that will be timely responsive in addressing the security service request of ndi Anambra. CP Itam directed Officers to advance a strategy of community policing principles anchored on mutual trust, understanding, and partnership with the public, to dominate their area of responsibility in enhancing safety and maintaining public order.
* Archbishop Ecclesiastical Province of the Niger and Bishop Awka Diocese, Most Rev. Alexander Chibuzo Ibezim at the 2024 Awka Diocesan Synod held recently at the Church of The Pentcost, Awka applauded the management of Millennium College of Nursing Sciences Awka led by Mrs Chisom C.Ezulike for standing up to be counted in the administration of the College of Nursing Sciences. Archbishop Ibezim warned detractors to allow the College Focus on attaining its heights of training digitally savvy graduates that shall compete with their peers globally. This is coming as the Nursing and Midwifery Council of Nigeria (NMCN) has recognized Millennium College of Nursing Sciences, Awka, for its use of the Computer-Based Training (CBT) evaluation method in its entrance examination and Preliminary Training Sessions (PTS).
* The Former House of Assembly member and current Commissioner For Special Duties, Hon. Mrs Beverly Nkemdiche Ikpeazu has lauded founder of Admin Foundation, Hon. Chief Promise Egbeji for organizing football competition which she said is promoting unity through the football tournament in the constituency. She made the statement during the final football tournament at Godwin Achebe Memorial Stadium Fegge, Onitsha through her representative, Hon. Onyebuchi Obi, stating that, the tournament will not only promote peace but will also discover young talents.
* The Convener of Women Initiative for Greater Anambra, WIGA, joined the All Progressives Grand Alliance APGA, Ichida and Anaocha to welcome the Labour Party House of Assembly candidate in the last election, Chief Osita Ozalagba and his followers back to APGA. Speaking during the meeting hosted by Chief Innocent Chiekezie in his country home, Ichida, Hon Amaka Obi, advised APGA faithful to be firm and always stand by the party. According to her, APGA has continued to grow from strength to strength and can only grow better when members are steadfast.
