# With the aim of renewing commitment towards immunization, the Anambra State Primary Healthcare Development Agency (ASPHCDA) in collaboration with State Ministry of Health (SMOH) and Partners has flagged-off the 2026 African Vaccination Week (AVW) themed: “For Every Generation, Vaccines Work”.
The flag-off ceremony was held at Primary Healthcare Centre (PHC) Umuaku, Uli in Ihiala LGA.
It had in attendance; State team, LGA team, Partners, Women Groups, Community Leaders and members which includes Parents and Caregivers.
The event, which is celebrated annually was also marked with a road walk, targeted toward preaching the gospel of immunization and ensuring the message gets to all corners at the grassroots. It was used to remind parents/caregivers the importance of immunization while getting their renewal and commitment towards immunization of their children.
The Executive Secretary, ASPHCDA, Dr Obianuju Okoye represented by the Director, Disease Control and Immunization, Dr Nnamdi Placid Uliagbafusi explained that immunization protects life. She urged for active community involvement/ participation in ensuring that children were vaccinated.
# # The Nigerian Institute of Public Relations (NIPR), Anambra State Chapter, has intensified efforts to expand its frontiers of collaboration and professional impact through strategic visits to key government institutions in the state.
The delegation, led by the State Chairman, Dr. Ngozi Ulogu, paid a courtesy visit to the Secretary to Anambra State Government, Mrs Chiamaka Nnake seeking to explore areas of collaboration in promoting adherence to professional standards in work ethics and supporting initiatives that enhance the image and reputation of Anambra State through conscious awareness creation.
Dr Ulogu noted that the Chapter is ready to partner with the State Government in delivering effective communication strategies that will further consolidate these achievements and project the state more favorably on the national and global stages.
# St Patrick’s Catholic Cathedral, Awka, Anambra State, was agog with celebrations as the members of the Catholic Men’s Organization, CMO, Awka Diocese, converged on the Cathedral, for the flag-off ceremony of the 2026 CMO Week.
The ceremony, which began with a Holy Mass, kicked off with a football match, and was concluded with Igba Eze Cultural Dance Competition by deaneries.
In the football match, Amawbia Deanery emerged champions, while Adazi and Agulu Deaneries clinched the first position in the Igba Eze Cultural Dance Competition.
According to the Diocesan Chaplain of the CMO, Rev Fr Jude Ubah, and the Diocesan President, Sir Victor Meju, represented by the Vice President, Hon Henry Ogbuezi, the competitions, were the first of their kind in the annals of the Organization, aimed at engendering a spirit of love, peace, and unity among fathers in the Diocese.
# The Obi Okpuno-Uruagu Palace in Nnewi, hosted a landmark cultural and leadership event as His Royal Highness, Obi Afam Iloka, formally inaugurated the Obi in Council for Okpuno-Uruagu, reinforcing the structure of traditional governance and community leadership.
The ceremony attracted a distinguished assembly of chiefs, elders, political figures, business leaders, and other prominent stakeholders, reflecting the significance of the occasion.
In his address, the Obi emphasized that the creation of the Obi in Council is a deliberate step to institutionalize an advisory framework that will support the throne. He noted that the Council is essential for ensuring that decisions are guided by equity, fairness, and collective wisdom, particularly in a rapidly evolving community landscape.
A major highlight of the ceremony was the inauguration of notable personalities into the Council. Chief Dr. Cletus Ibeto, CON, was conferred with the prestigious chieftaincy title Ogbata Onua of Okpuno-Uruagu. Also inaugurated were Chief Mba Mba Iloka, who holds the title Ikenga Oduke and was appointed as Palace Secretary, Chief Engr.
Chris Obiora, Chief IK Ibeto, and Chief Paul Obiorah, among others.
# The Anambra State Police Command has recorded a breakthrough in its fight against kidnapping, as a joint security team stormed a bush in Awuda, Nnobi, Idemili North LGA, rescuing a kidnapped electrician and arresting three suspected kidnappers.
The operation conducted by operatives of the Rapid Response Squad, Awkuzu, in collaboration with members of the Agunechemba Vigilante Group, Nnobi, acting on credible intelligence.
According to a statement issued by the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Tochukwu Ikenga, the team stormed a forested hideout at Umuezeala, Awuda Village, where the suspects were operating.
The police also successfully rescued the victim, an electrician, who was allegedly lured by the suspects under the guise of offering him a job opportunity.
# The Member representing Aguata Federal Constituency, Engr. Dominic Okafor, has officially flagged off the construction of the Igwe Emmanuel Chukwukadibia Onyeneke Road in Ekwulobia.
Speaking at the event, Hon. Okafor described the project as more than a road construction initiative, emphasizing its transformative impact.
“This project is about connecting our people to opportunities, easing movement, and enhancing everyday life,” he stated.
# For Sir Callistus Obunike Ohaegbu, representing his people in the Federal House is not going to be about providing boreholes, streetlights, or token projects, but to achieve the bigger task of transforming his constituency and the South East at large.
Ohaegbu stated this in his country home, Ukpor in Nnewi South LGA of Anambra State during his declaration to vie for the House of Representatives for Nnewi North, Nnewi South and Ekwusigo Federal Constituency on the platform of the African Democratic Congress, ADC.
Addressing the party faithful in Ukpor, he promised to give them succour in a way that would make them feel proud anytime they watched him on the television.
# The National President, Association of Community Health Private Practitioners of Nigeria, Comrade Wole Jonathan, has called on both the Federal and State Governments to establish a Directorate of Community Health Services and involve Community Health Practitioners in making health policies on Primary Health Care.
Comrade Wole, made the call in an address during the quarterly National Delegates Conference with the theme, “Role of Community Health Private Practitioners in Reducing Mortality/Morbidity Rate and Disease Burden in the Rural Communities in Nigeria,” held at Anambra State College of Health Technology, Obosi.
He stated that Community Health Practice remains the foundation upon which Primary Health Care in Nigeria is built, pointed out that Private Community Health Practitioners are expanding access to care, reducing pressure on public facilities, and contributing significantly to universal health coverage.
