President Bola Tinubu has secured the All Progressives Congress (APC) presidential ticket for the 2027 election after a landslide victory in the party’s nationwide direct primary.
Tinubu polled 10,999,967 votes, defeating his only challenger, businessman Stanley Osifo, who managed just 16,504 votes. The results were announced on Sunday at the Bola Tinubu International Conference Centre in Abuja.
Former Senate President Pius Anyim, who served as the Returning Officer, declared Tinubu the winner after collation from all 8,809 wards across the country.
Party officials described the outcome as a strong endorsement of Tinubu’s leadership and policies by APC members. The direct primary involved ordinary party members voting directly at ward levels.
Tinubu recorded overwhelming support across all geopolitical zones. In the South-West, he scored 814,988 votes in Lagos, 322,485 in Ogun and similarly dominant figures in other states. Strong performances were also recorded in the North-West, with Kaduna delivering 618,914 votes and Kano 500,852.
The president equally dominated the South-East, South-South and North-Central zones, leaving Osifo with only marginal support in a few areas.
The exercise forms part of the APC’s process to formally nominate its candidate for the 2027 presidential election, where Tinubu is expected to seek a second term.
