* Anambra State Commissioner for Youth Development, Patrick Agha Mba has revealed that Governor Chukwuma Soludo’s One Youth, Two Skills Scheme will adopt and modernise the age-old Igbo igba-boy apprenticeship model. He also disclosed that Governor Soludo’s goal is for trainees in the scheme to become employers of labor within two years.

* The Director Agency for Mass Literacy Adult and Non-formal Education, Mrs. Ebele Ononihu has underscored the importance of Education to development of any society. Mrs. Ononihu stated this when she embarked on a one-day visit to Nnewi Correctional Centre during her interaction with the inmates undergoing Adult Education while being incarcerated. The AANFE Director who observed that education is a powerful tool that is capable of changing the world opined that exposure to Education would reduce some of the problems confronting the society as educated people make a better society.

* The coordinator of Anambra State National Youths Service corps, Mrs Blessing Ekene Iruma has lamented about the inadequate accommodation for Camp Officials Army, Police, in its orientation camp at Umuawulu/Mbaukwu.

She also raised the alarm of the effect of devasting menace of erosion within the orientation camp, that has been threatening the area. According to the coordinator, the erosion is a serious threat to the scheme in the state. 

* Onitsha Business School, the promoters of the marathon, say no fewer than two thousand athletes will participate in the Onitsha City Marathon scheduled for September. The organisers disclosed that the prize money for victorious contestants is a total prize money of $400,000 for foreign athletes, and N10 million for the local athletes.

* Governor of Anambra State, Chukwuma Soludo has reiterated the call for the church to rise to the occasion and take responsibility for a better Anambra. He revealed that while the government has a role to play, individuals, institutions, and the church play a larger role in the journey to a liveable and prosperous homeland.

* Ndiigbo have been enjoined to promote their rich language both within and outside their domain. Speaking from his base in Nnewi, a concerned citizen and astute lover of Igbo culture and tradition, Dim Odogwu Onwuatuegwu said that this has become necessary in view of the declining rate with which Igbo people communicate in English language while other tribes and ethnic groups proudly speak their tongues at all places irrespective of their status.

* UNIZIK Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Charles Esimone, says he is demanding 100 percent loyalty from all his appointees while in their various positions of authority as Directors, Coordinators, Deputy Directors, Deputy Coordinators and Heads of Departments. Esimone made the demand on the occasion of the one-day orientation meeting for all heads of Departments and Departmental ICT officers for the 2022-2023 academic session held at the ASUU NAU Secretariat

* Anambra State House of Assembly Committee on Tender’s Board and Public Procurement has called on Ministries, Departments and Agencies MDAs to stick to Procurement Act in their capital expenditure to encourage accountability. The Committee made the call during its meeting with the Accountant General of Anambra State, Dr. Chukwudi Okoli and his staff held at the Legislative Complex, Awka. According to the Chairman of the Committee, Barrister Chuka Ezenwune, the essence of the meeting was to ascertain whether the office of the Accountant General follows due process in the disbursement of public funds within the 2023 fiscal year.

* The President of the Police Officers Wives Association (POWA), Hajiya Hajara Usman Alkali Baba, has commissions the newly built Police Officers Wives Association Skill Acquisition Center in Ukpo, Dunukofia Local Government, Anambra state. ANN reports that this initiative is one of the agenda and progressive reforms of Hajiya Usman as the 21st President of POWA.

Since assumption of office, Usman has built and commissioned a skill acquisition center in Abuja, Rivers, Anambra as well as Benue State that is still ongoing.

* Students from Queen of the Rosary College Onitsha has clinched second place in the the just concluded World Affairs Challenge. The students innovated ’Life bags, a 100% plantable biodegradable bag made from rice straws, banana fibres, corn husks and infused with tomato, pepper and watermelon seeds so that the bags can grow into plants when disposed of. 

* Anambra State Director, National Orientation Agency, NOA, Sir Joseph Uchendu, has called on Nigerians to toe the path of peace for the overall progress and development of the country. Sir Joseph, made the call during a press conference at his office in Awka.

* Enugu Rangers football club settled for a draw (1-1) in week eighteen match of the NPFL with group B table toppers Rivers united at the Awka city stadium on Sunday. The game marks the end of the 18 games league.
