* As part of plans to support farmers in the state, the Anambra State Government has given its assurance of the supply of specialised farm inputs. The State Commissioner for Agriculture, Dr. Forster Ihejiofor, gave the assurance while addressing journalists in Awka, Anambra State capital recently. He said farmers in the state are going to receive subsidised inputs to boost their outputs and food production at the end of the 2023 farming season.
* A passenger of a motorcyclist was recently crushed to death by a truck driver at Awkuzu junction along Awka-Onitsha expressway, Anambra State. The incident involved the truck and the motorcycle with four persons on board.
ANN gathered that the cyclist was on speed with his passenger who was carrying a masquerade when both of them suddenly fell down after the load the passenger was carrying hit the truck while overtaking it.
* Commendations have continued to trail the structural transformation going on at Fegge Police Station, Onitsha South LGA, Anambra State. A Community leader and Onitsha-based business mogul, Chief Edward Ike Okechukwu, said that stakeholders and friends of the station were behind the ongoing renovation and various facilities which is giving the station a new look.
* The Director of the National Orientation Agency (NOA) in Anambra State, Sir Joseph Uchendu has advised Nigerian youths to avoid the repeat of the vents of 1967 in the country and toe the path of peace, justice, and unity as sine-qua-non for the overall development of the country. The NOA Director, Uchendu, gave the advice when he led some members of his management to an advocacy visit on the Traditional Ruler of Nnewi, Igwe Dr. Kenneth Orizu in his palace recently.
* The Anambra State Command of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), recently, witnessed a change of baton in its leadership. Comdt. Edwin Nkemakolam Osuala took over the command as the 15th substantive State Commandant from Comdt. Chikere Isidore who has been redeployed to NSCDC Zone E, Zonal Headquarters Owerri, Imo State. Osuala who assured Anambra residents of adequate security, said he will ensure that every officer discharged his duty with the highest level of efficiency and professionalism.
* Over six hundred freshers have been formally inducted as students of Nwafor Orizu College of Education, Nsugbe, after taking oath of matriculation and declaration of loyalty to the institution. The event which held at the college field recently, was the 42nd matriculation ceremony for students to be offered National Certificate in Education, NCE, and 26th matriculation for students seeking Bachelors Degree in Education and Professional Diploma in Education for 2022/2023 academic session.
* Transporters, business owners and residents of Anambra State are groaning over the unabated activities of touts who have taken over the collection of revenue in Awka and Onitsha.
The administration of Professor Charles Soludo was expected to usher in a new dawn in revenue collection in Anambra, a state known as the light of the nation, but the activities of touts and illegal revenue collectors are becoming a dark side of the state.
* Coordinator of Anambra State National Youth Service Corps (NYSC), Mrs Blessing Ekene Iruma recently worshiped with Muslim community in Awka as part of activities to celebrate NYSC @ 50. Speaking to the members of Hausa Muslim shortly after the jumat service, she called for mutual relations between the Muslim community and the scheme in the state .
According to her, the scheme was purposely designed to create bounding among Nigerians youth to appreciate one and another. Iruma also noted that the scheme had actually cemented alot of good friendship and relations among the youths.
* Open heart surgery has commenced operation at Dame Irene Okwuosa Memorial Hospital (DIOMH), Oraifite, in Ekwusigo Local Government Area of Anambra State.
ANN gathered that the Hospital was built by Sir Emeka Okwuosa Foundation (SEOF), to assist people with heart problems. The Spokesperson for the foundation, Sir. Oselloka Offoh, who disclosed this in a statement in Awka, on Saturday, also informed the public that the Foundation has kicked off its May 2023 Medical Mission at the Hospital.
* The Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) has asked the United States of America ( USA) to independently investigate the killing of its staff members and others in Ogbaru, Anambra State recently. The secessionists made the call via a statement by its media and publicity secretary, Emma Powerful.
* No fewer than four persons reportedly died, while goods worth millions of naira were destroyed, as unidentified gunmen launched an attack on another community in Anambra State, barely two days after a deadly attack that led to the death of seven persons in another community in the state.
