* The Civil Liberties Organization (CLO) has urged the leadership of the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) and All Progressives Congress (APC) to caution their supporters against attacking each other in Anambra. CLO chairman in Anambra, Vincent Ezekwueme demanded an end to the ongoing “despicable verbal attacks” between the supporters of the two political parties.
* Professor Chukwuma Soludo, Mr. Peter Obi, Dame Virgy Etiaba amongst others has paid glowing tributes to the late former Governor of the State, Dr. Chinwoke Clement Mbadinuju who passed away at the age of 77. ANN reports that late Dr. Chinwoke Clement Mbadinuju served as Governor of Anambra State from 1999 to 2003.
Speaking at the occasion, the Governor described Dr. Mbadinuju as a man who devoted his life to serving the people of the State.
* A bill for a law to provide for the management, protection and sustainability of the environment in Anambra state and for connected purposes has scaled through first and second reading at plenary on Wednesday. ANN reports that Deputy Majority Leader, Hon. Jude Akpua through order 14, rule 74:1 of the house order, seek the permission of the assembly to proceed with the second reading of the bill. Leading the debate, Hon. Akpua who is the member representing Njikoka two constituency emphasized on the need for ndi Anambra to manage their environment properly in order to avoid road deterioration. He called for catchments to be built at compounds in order to curb erosion.
* The Founder of Holy Ghost Adoration Ministry, Rev. Fr. Emmanuel Obimma popularly called Fr. Ebube Muonso, has commended Governor Chukwuma Charles Soludo for his good work in Anambra State and also encouraged him to continue to persevere in faith, despite the many confronting obstacles. Rev. Fr. Obimma who was speaking during morning mass celebration at the Governor’s Lodge, Amawbia, expressed optimism that the Governor will continue to succeed and deliver dividends of democracy.
* A bill for a law to provide for the consolidation, administration and collection of all revenue due to the state and local government in Anambra State, establish the relevant administrative structures and provide for related matters has been read for the first and second time at plenary. ANN reports that Deputy Majority Leader, Hon. Jude Akpua through order 14, rule 74:1 of the house order, seek the permission of the assembly to proceed with the second reading of the bill. Leading the motion, Hon. Akpua who is the member representing Njikoka two constituency maintained that revenue is the bed rock of any administration.
* Two unidentified engineers allegedly flee their construction sites as Council for the Regulation of Engineering in Nigeria (COREN) in collaboration with the Nigerian Society of Engineers (NSE) embark on regulatory inspection campaign to addressed issues of engineering failures, building collapses and quackery in the engineering profession in Onitsha and its environs. The two unidentified engineers fled as soon as they sighted the COREN inspection team in their various construction sites at Ridge Road GRA and NTA Road Onitsha, respectively. Speaking to journalists shortly after the inspection campaign exercise in Onitsha, the sectorial team lead of COREN, Engr. Oputa Collins, said the exercise will help curtail the above mentioned menace not only in Onitsha but the country at large
* Anambra State has changed its Christian pilgrimage route from Israel to Rome and Greece. This is following the conflict between Israel and Hamas, which has led to several casualties. A statement by the Anambra Pilgrims Welfare Board was signed by Felicia Uzoma and Barr Obiora Nweke; SSA to the Governor on Pilgrims and Principal Executive Officer respectively.
* An international NGO championing freedom of religion and Belief in Nigeria and other countries have promised to intervene in the case of a radical traditional religion preacher, Mathias Ezeaku, who was arrested at Nkpor, Idemili North Local Government Area of Anambra State. Mr. Ezeaku, who operates a traditional worship centre known as ‘Omenani Bu Uzo Eziokwu Na Ndu’, had last year burnt the Holy Bible to spite Christians in a viral video clip, and has remained critical of many Christian pastors, reason people believe his arrest must have been as a result of complaints by a popular pastor.
* Days after the murder of a grassroots politician in Anambra State, the State Governor, Prof. Chukwuma Soludo, and the leadership of the deceased’s community have finally spoken out on the situation. When contacted, Mr. Christian Aburime, the Press Secretary to the Governor, in his reaction on behalf of his principal, Governor Soludo, said the police were still investigating the matter, and should be allowed to do their job.
