* Traffic Management in the commercial city of Onitsha and it’s environs is gradually getting better as a result of traffic lights mounted by the state Government to regulate traffic flows at strategic points.

It was observed that traffic gridlock usually generated through the attitude of recalcitrant drivers in some roundabouts and junctions like the Ochanja, Borromeow, and DMGS roundabouts, Ekene Junction,Savoy and Nkpor Junction among others has reduced drastically.

Some of the road users affirmed that the traffic lights have eliminated situations that facilitate traffic impediments, but pointed out some errors in the traffic lights at Nkpor Junction.

Baring their minds at the DMGS roundabout, some transporters stated that the traffic lights regulate traffic flows more efficiently, regretting that some personalities still drive against the traffic to the chagrin of other road users.

* A philanthropist, Chief Chidi Charles Onyeze, has emerged the governorship candidate of the Accord party for the November 8th 2025 Anambra governorship election.

Onyeze emerged unopposed during the Party’s Primary election process held at East End Hotel, Aroma, Awka, on Tuesday, April 8, 2025.

Onyeze emerged victorious in Awka, the state capital, after securing 93 votes out of the 96 accredited votes.

In his acceptance speech, Onyeze called for unity among Accord Party members, stressing that the mission ahead could not be achieved if the party go into it divided.

* The Ihiala Divisional Police Station have in custody one Chidiebere Igboanugo and Emmanuel Ibeabuchi all males from Umunwaji Ogboro, Ihiala over the murder of an 80 years old woman.

The victim, late Mrs Theresa Igbojonu of the same village was tied on both the legs and mouth before her murder. Meanwhile, a black CG motorcycle allegedly stolen from the deceased has been recovered.

Anambra Command, investigation of the incident has been ongoing since the receipt of the complaint on 2nd April 2025 by 11.30 pm.

The suspects would be charged to Court on conclusion of the investigations’. Ikenga stated.

* Ogbaru Main Market, popularly known as Relief Market near Onitsha, Anambra State, under the leadership of Chief Ndubuisi Ochiogu, has extolled the Executive Governor of Anambra State, Professor Charles Chukwuma Soludo, following his reaffirmation as the candidate for the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) in the November 8 gubernatorial election in Anambra State.

Prof. Soludo was unanimously confirmed as the sole candidate of the APGA during the party’s primary election, held at Dr. Alex Ekwueme Square in Awka, the state capital. The confirmation was carried out through a “Yes” or “No” vote, with delegates from all twenty-one local government areas further affirming his candidacy.

In his congratulatory message, which was made available to the press, Ochiogu, speaking on behalf of the Board of Trustees, Patrons, Executives, Line Chairmen, and Secretaries of the Market, stated that Soludo’s reaffirmation is a step in the right direction and a clear vote of confidence.

* Anambra State Government, Ministry of Budget and Economic Planning in partnership with United Nations Children Fund, UNICEF have launched Open Government Partnership,OGP, Action Plan two.

The OGP Action Plan two is aimed at fostering transparency and accountability in governance and budget implementation as well as to further bring people closer to the government .

In her welcome remarks, the Commissioner for Budget and Economic Planning, Mrs Chiamaka Nnake said that the successful implementation of OGP Action Plan 11 laid a sure foundation for what they are doing today and reaffirms the state government’s dedication to fostering open, transparent, accountable and inclusive governance and maintained that under Governor Chukwuma Soludo’s leadership, Anambra has embraced a new era of excellence marked by commitment to open governance.

UNICEF Representative, Mr Atthawoot Op Sangkharat in his goodwill message said
UNICEF actively supports and engages with the Open Government Partnership to promote greater transparency, accountability, and participation in government, particularly in areas affecting children’s rights and marginalized population.

He noted that UNICEF sees OGP as a valuable platform to advance these goals through action plans and commitments that governments make to improve their performance in areas like education, health, and social services.

* A former chieftain of Labour Party cum aspirant in the All Progressives Congress (APC) governorship race in Anambra, Mr Valentine Ozigbo has rejected the outcome of the party’s Primary election held at Prof Dora Akunyili Women Development Center in Awka on Saturday, April 5, 2025.

The rejection was contained in a statement he personally signed and made available to Journalists in Awka on Tuesday.

Ozigbo said he has also filed a formal petition before the APC Gubernatorial Primary Appeals Committee, alleging that the process that produced Mr Nicholas Ukachukwu as the party’s flag bearer was riddled with fraud, irregularities, and violations of democratic norms.

* The attention of the Anambra State Government has been drawn to the activities of some individuals and groups who collect National Identification Numbers (NIN) from individuals in various communities in Anambra State under the guise that the National Identity Management Commission (NIMC) requires them for revalidation or issuance of permanent Identity Cards.

Commissioner for Information, Dr. Law Mefor in a press statement stated government therefore advises anyone asked to submit his/her NIN to call the Anambra State security number, 5111, for their apprehension and other necessary actions.

“Inquiries with the NINC have confirmed that there is no such exercise going on, while further investigations have also revealed that these are criminals hired by some desperate politicians to hijack people’s Voter Cards using their names and personal details contained in their NINs.

“With the NINs and the unsuspecting people’s personal details, they can override the individuals’ Voter’s Cards and issue themselves and their cohorts fresh Voter’s Cards.

“The further implication is that whereas they can vote on behalf of the owners during elections, having stolen their identities, the real owners cannot vote because the database no longer recognises them as the true owners.

* To ensure all round successful implementation of the third round of Big Cash Up vaccination exercise in nine local government areas of the state, Anambra State Primary Health Care Development Agency has organised a one day planning and stakeholders engagement meeting, to brainstorm on ways to get the exercise done better.

The meeting held at Anambra State Primary Health Care Development Agency, Awka, was attended by CSOs, NOA, Ministries of Education, Information, Women Affairs, Red Cross Society, Social Mobilisation Officers in Local Government Areas among others.

Addressing the key players, the Director Anambra State Primary Health Care Development Agency, Dr Nnamdi Uliagbafusi, said the meeting will afford them the opportunity to xray their past performance, share their experiences on their success areas and their challenges to enable them proffer solution and learn from each other,nhow they got it right, calling on them to get it better done during the third round starting from 22 of April, 2025.

In their separate speeches, the UNICEF representative Dr Uju Eze and the World Health Organization, Mr Ndubuisi Oji, both who are partnering the state in the program, appreciated the Social Mobilisation Officers and Anambra State Primary Health Care Agency for their efforts in the implementation of the program, urging them to ensure that every child is captured in the third round of the program.

* The Speaker of Anambra State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Somtochukwu Udeze has praised Governor Chukwuma Soludo’s administration for judicious use of funds allocated for projects.

Udeze while speaking shortly after Governor Chukwuma Soludo took Members of the 8th Assembly round projects including the Solution Fun City and the Government House and Governor’s Lodge projects, applauded the relationship between the executive and legislature.

According to Udeze, Anambra State has witnessed massive development under Governor Soludo, as reported by the various oversight committees of the state Assembly.

The Speaker particularly extoled the Governor for breaking the thirty four year old jinx by erecting a befitting Government House and Governor’s Lodge, stressing that the Assembly was happy for the development.

* Sir. Jude Ezenwafor has emerged as the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) flag bearer in the forth coming November 8th Anambra State governorship election.

Ezenwafor was the only aspirant who purchased the party’s N40 million nomination form for the governorship primary election.

The Abuja based real estate developer got the party’s ticket unopposed during the PDP primary held Tuesday at the Prof. Dora Akunyili Women Development Centre in Awka, Anambra State Capital.

He was declared winner by the chairman of the PDP primary election committee, Col. Chijioke Onwubuya (rtd), following the conclusion of voting by accredited delegates.
