Tech entrepreneur Elon Musk has launched Grokipedia, a new AI-powered online encyclopedia he describes as a counter to perceived biases in Wikipedia, according to AP sources.
Musk announced the platform via social media, stating that Grokipedia is now live and its mission is “the truth, the whole truth and nothing but the truth.” The minimalist site interface currently hosts about 885,000 articles, far fewer than Wikipedia’s seven million English entries.
Unlike Wikipedia’s volunteer-edited model, Grokipedia is believed to rely heavily on Musk’s AI firm xAI and its Grok chatbot for content generation and fact-checking. Some entries appear adapted from Wikipedia, though with significantly fewer sources — for instance, its page on the Chola Dynasty includes only three linked references compared to Wikipedia’s 113.
Musk has long criticized Wikipedia as politically biased, calling it a “propaganda” platform and accusing it of ideological slant in its political coverage. In Grokipedia, its own article on Wikipedia asserts that the older platform has “systemic ideological biases — particularly a left-leaning slant.”
The launch comes amid growing scrutiny over Wikipedia’s influence on AI training and editorial neutrality. The Wikimedia Foundation has not yet responded to requests for comment on Grokipedia’s debut.
