Dangote Refinery Supplies 18 Million Litres of Petrol Daily — NMDPRA

The Dangote Refinery provided an average of 18.03 million litres of petrol per day between October 2024 and October 2025, according to new data from the Nigerian Midstream and Downstream Petroleum Regulatory Authority (NMDPRA).

That figure is well below the 35 million litres per day supply target previously announced by NMDPRA — a shortfall that highlights ongoing challenges in meeting national demand.

The NMDPRA report showed Nigeria’s overall daily petrol consumption rose to 56.7 million litres in October 2025. Of this, 27.6 million litres were imported, while 17.08 million litres came from local refineries — including Dangote.

Experts warn the gap between supply and demand — over 38 million litres daily — could sustain fuel import dependency, strain foreign reserves, and complicate the government’s goal of energy self-sufficiency.

“The refinery’s output remains critical, but 18 million litres daily is not enough given our appetite,” said an industry observer, asking not to be named. “Unless output ramps up soon, Nigerians will continue to rely heavily on imports.”

The shortfall has reignited debate over fuel pricing, import duties, and the viability of local refining capacity, just as Nigeria navigates economic headwinds and currency pressures.
