Football accounted for 77 percent of all cases handled by the Court of Arbitration for Sport last year, according to a FIFA report released Monday, underscoring the sport’s overwhelming presence in global sports disputes.
The governing body’s fourth annual overview of appeals against its decisions highlighted football’s “dominant share” of the tribunal’s workload in 2025.
In a post on X, FIFA stated: “the fourth edition of the report highlights that 77 % of all cases at CAS in 2025 involved football matters, underscoring the sport’s dominant share of the tribunal’s overall caseload for the year.”
The document provides insights into arbitration trends, emphasizing the framework’s role in resolving conflicts.
“This framework ensures that stakeholders, including member associations, confederations, players, clubs, officials, coaches, and agents have access to impartial dispute resolution mechanisms,” FIFA added.
While specific figures on total appeals were not disclosed, the report focuses on challenges to FIFA rulings, reflecting ongoing tensions in areas like player transfers, doping and governance.
