The All Progressives Congress (APC) Anambra State is forging ties with the rival All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) to secure support for President Bola Tinubu in the 2027 presidential race, a party leader announced Tuesday, amid preparations for internal elections.
APC state chairman Basil Ejidike unveiled the strategy at a stakeholders’ forum in the capital, pledging to capture 95 percent of Anambra’s votes for Tinubu and the ruling party.
He reaffirmed the chapter’s backing for the incumbent, proposing his adoption as the 2027 flagbearer — a motion seconded by governorship hopeful Nicholas Ukachukwu and his running mate, Senator Uche Ekwunife.
Ukachukwu stressed unity and reform within the APC, saying: “Anambra APC will grow when the right things are done. We joined the APC to make the party better in Anambra, and not to cause confusion or chase away the people we met in the party.” He condemned defections and called for equitable leadership roles.
The gathering also geared members for upcoming ward congresses, highlighting efforts to strengthen the APC’s foothold in a region long dominated by APGA.
Party officials and APGA representatives offered no immediate comment on the proposed collaboration.
