BREAKING: Chelsea Hit with £10.75m Fine, Suspended Transfer Ban

Chelsea Football Club has been fined £10.75 million and handed a one-year transfer ban suspended for two years by the Premier League after admitting to making undisclosed payments to agents and intermediaries between 2011 and 2018.

The club also received an immediate nine-month ban on registering youth players, relating to irregularities between 2019 and 2022.

The breaches came to light during due diligence when the club’s American owners took over in 2022. Chelsea self-reported the issues to the Premier League, the Football Association and UEFA.

“The Premier League says Chelsea’s ‘proactive self-reporting’ and ‘exceptional co-operation’ throughout the investigation acted as significant mitigating factors when mulling over potential sanctions,” the league stated.

Chelsea said it “accept[s] the terms of the settlement in full” and welcomed the Premier League’s acknowledgment of its assistance in the probe.

The suspended senior transfer ban means the club can continue signing players in the upcoming windows provided it commits no further breaches.

Chelsea was previously fined £8.64 million by UEFA in 2023 for related financial reporting failures under the previous ownership.
