‎First Power Pushes Embedded Generation, Seeks Stronger Customer Partnership To Boost Anambra Power Supply.

First Power Electricity Distribution Company Limited has unveiled a strategic plan to strengthen electricity supply in Anambra State through embedded power generation, while calling for deeper cooperation from customers to improve service delivery.

‎The company said the initiative is aimed at reducing dependence on Nigeria’s national grid and building a more resilient and reliable power system across its franchise area.

‎According to First Power, the embedded generation project will be executed in partnership with private investors to provide alternative energy sources and cushion the impact of persistent challenges in the sector.

‎These challenges include inadequate generation, transmission bottlenecks and chronic funding gaps that continue to undermine efficient electricity delivery nationwide.

‎The Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer, Engr. Okechukwu Okafor, disclosed the plan during the 2026 Customer Engagement Programme held in Awka, where stakeholders gathered to address key issues affecting power supply.

‎He explained that electricity distribution companies operate at the tail end of the value chain and rely entirely on upstream operators for power generation and transmission.

‎Okafor noted that customer payments play a critical role in sustaining the entire electricity ecosystem, warning that any disruption in funding or operations across the chain ultimately impacts supply to end users.

‎He identified vandalism, energy theft and non-payment of bills as major local challenges, stressing that improved collaboration between the company and consumers is essential to overcoming them.

‎The CEO urged communities to safeguard critical infrastructure, including transformers and distribution lines, and adopt preventive measures such as surveillance systems to deter criminal activities.

‎Technical experts at the forum reinforced the need for vigilance, highlighting illegal connections and unauthorised interference as serious threats to network stability and efficient distribution.

‎The company also raised safety concerns, warning against encroachment on power line corridors and pledging strict enforcement, including disconnection of non-compliant structures.

‎On customer service and metering, First Power announced the rollout of over 13,000 prepaid meters and plans for a new meter production facility in Onitsha, while assuring customers of improved transparency, faster complaint resolution and a sustained commitment to reliable power delivery.
