APC Labels Obi ‘Political Drifter’ Amid Defection to NDC

All Progressives Congress (APC) has dismissed former Labour Party presidential candidate Peter Obi as an “inconsolable political drifter” who is roaming from one party to another in search of an easy presidential ticket for the 2027 election.

APC National Publicity Secretary Felix Morka made the scathing remark in a statement on Sunday, reacting to Obi’s latest defection from the African Democratic Congress (ADC).

The ruling party accused the former Anambra State governor of being unwilling to stay and build any political platform.

“Peter Obi, a political rolling stone that gathers no moss… roaming again in search of a free, uncontested, unchallenged presidential ticket… never willing to remain to build any party,” Morka said.

The APC further claimed that Obi “fantasises to be president on a ticket delivered only on a platter of gold,” recalling his previous movements from the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) to the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), then to the Labour Party, and most recently the ADC.

Obi had on Sunday announced his exit from the ADC, citing “endless court cases, internal battles, suspicion, and division” within the party. He also alleged that politicians who created crises in the Labour Party were finding their way into the ADC.

Political observers have linked Obi’s latest move to reports of ongoing discussions with former Kano State governor Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso to contest the 2027 presidential election on the platform of the newly formed Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC).

The APC described Obi’s pattern of defection as evidence of a lack of commitment to party building and institutional loyalty.
