Socialite and businessman Pascal Okechukwu, popularly known as Cubana Chief Priest, has denied losing an APC primary election, insisting he voluntarily withdrew from the race.
Okechukwu, who aspired for the House of Representatives seat in Imo State’s Orsu/Orlu/Oru East Federal Constituency, said he stepped aside after discussions with Imo Governor Hope Uzodimma on the party’s zoning formula.
In an Instagram post on Sunday, he explained that Orlu Local Government Area had already produced a representative in the past and it was not yet time for another from the area. “In respect for the party and its leadership, I chose not to proceed to the field, and indeed, I never did,” he stated.
The nightlife entrepreneur added: “My decision and resolve to aspire for the office was born out of my conviction that the current holder of the office was not living up to the expectations and aspirations of our people.”
His clarification contrasts with an earlier video in which he expressed disappointment after allegedly polling only 14 votes and blamed community elders.
President Bola Tinubu’s son, Seyi Tinubu, publicly encouraged him following the controversy. “Bro, sometimes by losing a battle, you find a new way to win the war. Keep your head up, Cubana Chief Priest. We know what you are capable of achieving,” Seyi wrote.
Okechukwu dismissed claims that he owed supporters money, describing his bid as a personal project he funded himself. He reaffirmed loyalty to the APC and pledged support for President Tinubu’s 2027 re-election bid.
