Bruno Fernandes Hat-trick Powers Man United to 5-2 Comeback Win Over Ipswich

Bruno Fernandes scored a hat-trick as Manchester United recovered from an early deficit to thrash Ipswich Town 5-2 in the Premier League at Old Trafford on Sunday.

Ipswich took the lead in the 29th minute when Leif Davis finished a fine move involving Abdul Fatawu. United equalised five minutes before half-time after a defensive slip by Marcelino Nunez allowed Matheus Cunha to set up Fernandes for a powerful left-footed strike.

Harry Maguire’s effort was deflected into his own net by Jacob Greaves early in the second half to put the hosts ahead, despite a handball involving Maguire in the build-up that was not penalised. Greaves then fouled Cunha, and Fernandes converted the resulting penalty in the 61st minute.

The Portuguese captain completed his treble seven minutes later, reacting quickest after shots from Kobbie Mainoo and Bryan Mbeumo were blocked. Mbeumo added a fifth in the 82nd minute after being put through by Fernandes, before Chuba Akpom scored a late consolation for the visitors.

Marcus Rashford made his first Premier League start for United since December 2024 and impressed on the left. The result gave Michael Carrick’s side their first league win of the season after an opening defeat to Hull City and marked the first time United had scored five goals in a Premier League match since August 2021, when Fernandes also netted a hat-trick against Leeds.

Fernandes, who was named PFA Player of the Year earlier in the week, nearly scored a spectacular fourth from near the halfway line.
