WAEC Appoints Suleiman Kum as New Nigeria National Office Head

The West African Examinations Council has appointed Suleiman Kum as Head of its Nigeria National Office, the examining body announced on Sunday.

The 56-year-old succeeds Dr Amos Dangut, whose three-year tenure ended on October 1. Dangut has taken up the post of Registrar and Chief Executive Officer of WAEC.

Kum previously served as Deputy Registrar in the Head of National Office’s department and as Senior Deputy Registrar in charge of Test Administration until the end of August.

In a statement, WAEC Nigeria Head of Public Affairs Moyosola Adesina described the new appointee as “a seasoned test developer, administrator and executive” who joined the council on July 17, 1998, as Assistant Registrar II.

The statement highlighted Kum’s role in introducing Variable Data Printing and enhanced security features in examination materials, replacing attendance systems with facial-recognition biometric devices, and overseeing the delivery of Achievement Tests through Computer-Based Examination mode. He also established the Gusau office as a Custodial Centre.

Kum, from Plateau State, holds a Postgraduate Diploma in Education from the National Open University of Nigeria and is pursuing a Master of Education in Educational Administration and Planning at the same institution.

He has held a series of operational roles, including positions in examinations security in Awka, Yola and Makurdi, branch controller posts in Gusau and Kano, and later responsibilities as Deputy Registrar in Security Printing, zonal coordinator in Port Harcourt and Ikeja, Director of Administration, and Senior Deputy Registrar for Test Administration.

“Throughout his eventful career, Mr Kum has shown integrity, diligence, innovation and a strong commitment to service. His leadership across various portfolios has earned him numerous institutional commendations, accolades and awards within the Council and beyond,” the statement said.
