The newly sworn-in Anambra Commissioner for Youth Development and Sports, Hon. Patrick Agha Mba, has outlining an ambitious grassroots reform agenda.
Angel Network News (ANN) reports that
Mba, who previously served as Commissioner for Youth Empowerment during Governor Chukwuma Soludo’s first term, is among the few cabinet members retained for the governor’s second term.
Speaking after the inauguration, Mba said the state government intends to establish a bottom-up sports structure focused on talent discovery, youth empowerment and community participation.
He stressed that the administration wants sports to move beyond recreational activity and become a major contributor to Anambra’s creative and economic ecosystem.
Mba explained that the ministry would push for legislation to formally integrate sports and youth development into local council administration across the state, arguing that decentralisation would allow more young talents to be identified and nurtured at the grassroots.
“We are determined to mainstream sports as a business and a viable part of the creative economy,” Mba said. “Our target is to institutionalise sports development at the local government level so that every community becomes actively involved in discovering and developing talents.”
The commissioner added that the state government would work closely with local councils and private investors to strengthen sports infrastructure and build a sustainable sports ecosystem, in line with Governor Soludo’s broader human capital development agenda.
