* Anambra State Police Command has expressed willingness to work with the victims of abduction/kidnap for necessary action, especially in the efforts of the Command to continue to deny these criminals the space to wreak havoc and to create a safer environment for citizens in the State.

The Police Command demonstrates this commitment in response to a publication in the social media of the release of the two Reverend Sisters recently abducted along Ufuma Road, Orumba North Local Government and a video of an alleged escape of Mr Onyebuchi Okocha (popularly known as Onyeze Jesus) from a criminal hideout. 

According to SP. Tochukwu Ikenga, Police Public Relations Officer, Anambra State, in a press release, the Command while waiting for the victims to recuperate for possible debriefing by the investigating Officers assures improved security dominance and surveillance operations targeted to enhance safety across the state to deter criminal activities and ensure public safety.

* Governor Chukwuma Soludo has presented certificates of recognition to three newly elected traditional rulers.

The recipients of the certificates were Igwe Timothy Okwudiri Ifurunwa (Igwe Odudu 1 of Ihite) in Orumba South; Igwe Francis Ugochukwu Chikezie, (Igwe Ugodinaobi of Azia) in Ihiala; and Igwe (Sir) Obiora Anachuna, (Igwe Orazulunye of Nkwelle Ezunaka) in Oyi Local Government Area.

Soludo in his speech at the ceremony which took place at the Governor’s Lodge in Amawbia, Awka South Local Government Area, Anambra State on Tuesday, emphasized the importance of traditional institutions in promoting peace, unity, and development. 

The Governor urged the new rulers to prioritize good governance, their people’s welfare, and community harmony.

* The eighteen Councilors in Orumba South Local Government Area have unanimously congratulated former Deputy Governor of the state, Chief Emeka Sibeudu, on his emergence as the Secretary-General of Ohaneze Ndigbo Worldwide, a feat they described as deserving and great honour to Anambra State.

In their congratulatory message to Chief Sibeudu endorsed by the leader of the Orumba South Legislative Congress, Honourable Francis Ibe, the Councilors noted that the former Deputy Governor has continued to demonstrate leadership excellence, evident in the impressive marks he has made in various offices he has held.

They maintained that Chief Sibeudu has all it takes to handle the personnel and correspondences of the Secretariat of the Ohaneze Ndigbo Worldwide as the Secretary-General in view of his indepth knowledge of public administration and resource management.

* Fire outbreak engulfed the Ahịa Mgbede, located opposite the New Motor Spare Parts Market in Nnewi, the automobile hub of Anambra State.

The fire outbreak, which started in the early hours of Tuesday, January 14, razed down many shops, burning to ashes the multimillion naira worth of goods therein.

Confirming the fire incident in a statement issued to newsmen on Tuesday, the Anambra State Fire Service said it received a distress call at about 2:15am and immediately deployed crews of Firemen and firefighting equipment from Nnewi Fire Station and Ogidi Fire Station to the scene.

* The Chief Medical Director of the Chukwuemeka Odumegwu Ojukwu University Teaching hospital Amaku Awka, Dr. Joe Akabuike, says their vision is to make the hospital a medical tourism centre in Nigeria and beyond, and extolled Governor Chukwuma Soludo for bringing his magical solution and transformation to the hospital both in infrastructural and human resource developments.

Dr Akabuike, who said that the staff and management of the hospital are eternally grateful to the Governor, praised him for ongoing construction of trauma centre, construction of ultra-modern gate at the hospital, as well as the ongoing reconstruction of all the internal roads in the hospital, noted that the hospital has capable hands to deliver adequate medical services to Ndi Anambra and others.

 

He noted that management of patients is the most critical job to do in health profession, and assured the citizens that the hospital will continue to do its best in order to ensure that patient that visits the hospital will smile back home hale and hearty.

* Anambra State Commissioner of Police, Mr Nnaghe Obono Itam, has solicited more support and prayers for members of the Armed Forces of Nigeria; as they lay their lives daily in service of the nation.

 

Speaking in Awka to mark the 2025 Armed Forces Remembrance Day celebration, Mr Itam called on Nigerians and Ndi Anambra in particular to sustain their prayers and support for the members of the Armed Forces, saying that their sacrifices are critical to sustaining peace and ensuring that people sleep with their eyes closed.

 

For the State Commander, National Drug Law Enforcement Agency, NDLEA, Mr Daniel Onyeishi, the celebration is also an avenue to raise fund and come up with initiatives to cater for the families of security officials who died in active service to the nation.

 

* The Speaker of Anambra State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Somtochukwu Udeze has called on the federal government to give greater attention to the needs of the families of the Nation’s fallen heroes and ex-servicemen in appreciation of their contributions to the peace and development of the country.

the Chief Press Secretary To The Speaker,

Udeze urged serving security personnel in the country to emulate the team spirit and selfless service exhibited by the fallen heroes and called for intensive efforts towards provision of adequate security for the masses.

The Speaker who maintained that security of lives and property is a collective responsibility, appealed to well meaning citizens as well as other stakeholders to join hands with Governor Chukwuma Soludo in his efforts to achieve relative peace and security in the state.

* Prof. Sunday Nduka has been elected as the new Dean of the Faculty of Pharmaceutical Sciences, Nnamdi Azikiwe University, Awka at the extraordinary Faculty Board meeting chaired by the Acting Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Joseph I. Ikechebelu, on Tuesday, January 14, 2025.

Prof. Sunday Nduka polled a total of 24 votes to emerge victorious out of 33 accredited voters, while his opponent, Prof. Chukwuebuka Umeyor polled a total of 9 votes.

In his acceptance speech, Prof. Nduka expressed gratitude to his colleagues for entrusting him with the responsibility of leading the Faculty. The scholar called for collaboration and a spirit of unity to achieve shared goals.

* A disturbing warning has been issued by Rt. Hon. Chief Chuma Nzeribe, a former House of Representatives member and current Labour Party senatorial aspirant, regarding the precarious state of the old Niger Bridge.

In a statement released on Tuesday, Nzeribe revealed that the bridge has begun shaking again, sparking fears of an imminent collapse.

During his recent journey across the bridge to Asaba over the New Year’s holidays, Nzeribe observed the renewed shaking of the bridge, which he described as “very scary.”

* The Anambra State Government has concluded its 2025 Executive Council Retreat, held on the 13th of January, 2025 at the International Convention Centre, Awka. 

The retreat, themed “Changing Gear – Accelerating the Execution of the Solution Agenda in 2025,” brought together members of the State Executive Council, Mayors of the 21 Local Governments, and other key stakeholders.

During the retreat, the Governor of Anambra State, Professor Chukwuma Charles Soludo, CFR, presented a comprehensive review of the administration’s progress, highlighting achievements and areas for improvement. The Governor emphasized the need for collective effort and collaboration among all stakeholders to drive the state’s development agenda.
