Veteran Nigerian music producer and executive Don Jazzy has revealed that he nearly abandoned the music industry after the collapse of his former label, Mo’Hits Records.
In a candid interview, Jazzy stated: “When Mo’Hits ended, I thought that was it. I almost packed up to move abroad.” He described a period of deep uncertainty that followed the dissolution of his partnership with D’Banj in 2012, a setback he said nearly ended his career.
Despite the setbacks, Jazzy credited the support of friends and his own resilience for his comeback. He added: “But friends encouraged me to stay and start again, and Mavin Records was born.”
He went on to highlight how the experience shaped his outlook and strengthened his resolve: “Since then, I’ve learned not to let anything break me.”
Mo’Hits Records, co-founded by Don Jazzy and D’Banj, was once considered a powerhouse in Nigeria’s music scene but dissolved amid creative and business tensions. Don Jazzy subsequently founded Mavin Records in 2012, which went on to become one of Africa’s leading labels.
