# Former Attorney General and commissioner for Justice in Anambra state, Hon E D Chukwuma has commissioned first class Cloakroom built by the Onitsha branch of the Nigeria Bar Association, NBA.
Chukwuma, one of the senior Lawyers in commercial city of Onitsha, praised the chairman of the Bar branch, Chief Afam Obi for having such vision.
While commissioning the project close to the Premier Bar Lounge and Gym, Chukwuma said the idea was conceived in 2024, adding that opportunities to build such project had been there but ignored because of resources to prosecute it.
He described it as an unrivaled project in the history of Onitsha Bar, adding that they decided not to task people in building the projects that gulped millions of naira, but to shoulder the burden themselves.
# The Anambra State Boundary Committee has commenced process to resolving the lingering boundary dispute involving Ifiteani Agulu, Akabo Mbaukwu, and Ovolo Mbaukwu communities.
The meeting which took place at the office of the Deputy Governor, Light House Awka, had the representatives of the affected communities alongside the SBC members present to deliberate on possible pathways to proffer peaceful resolution towards the dispute.
Addressing the gathering, the representative of the Deputy Governor of Anambra State and Chairman State boundary committee Dr. OnyekaChukwu Ibezim explained that the action followed a plea by Ifiteani Agulu to the State Boundary Committee, for the state government to intervene in order to forestall any form of escalation of crisis in the affected boundary area.
In their submissions, the spokes persons of both parties claimed different boundary lines as they accused each other of constant incursion into each other’s territory despite knowledge of ancient boundary marks.
# The Anambra State House of Assembly at plenary confirmed the second batch of commissioner-nominees submitted by Governor Chukwuma Soludo.
The confirmed nominees are Arc. Henry Arinze for Housing, and Mr. Nonso Chukwuma Ebonwu for Commerce.
The Chairman House Committee on Screening and Electoral Matters, Rt. Hon. Chukwuma Okoye (Deputy Speaker) while presenting the report, said the nominees met all statutory requirements for public office and possessed the requisite academic qualifications and professional experience.
While congratulating the nominees, the Speaker, Rt. Hon. Somtochukwu Udeze said the confirmation was a call to serve, noting that Governor Soludo had placed significant trust in the nominees, and that Ndi Anambra expected much from them.
# The Joint National Association of Persons with Disabilities, JONAPWD, Onitsha South Local Government chapter, has commended the Council Mayor, Hon. Emeka Orji, and his Personal Assistant, Mrs. Ebere Ezechukwu, for donating 25 bags of 25kg rice and N30,000 to the association.
The appreciation came during the group’s monthly meeting at the Council Secretariat, immediately after the presentation.
Speaking on behalf of members, the Chairman Mr. Victor Igwebuike said the gesture was unprecedented.
While acknowledging government support, he noted that assistance is often limited and does not reach all 108 registered members.
# The non-teaching staff of the Federal Polytechnic, Oko, Anambra State, due for 2027 promotion, have successfully written their promotion examinations with assurances of timely promotion from the Rector, Dr Chioma Irene Awuzie.
The Rector, who was represented by the Director of Information and Communication Technology, Dr Amobi Chiamaogu, stated that the Rector has fast-tracked the staff promotion and appraisal process to ensure it is captured in the next year’s budget.
He said that the Rector, Dr Chioma Irene Awuzie, in her magnanimity, reviewed previous promotion and appraisal exercises in the polytechnic, and observed that promotions were often implemented outside the appropriate budget cycle.
He further reaffirmed the Rector’s commitment to staff welfare, professional growth, and a fair and transparent advancement process within the institution.
# The Management and Staff of Anambra State Primary Healthcare Development Agency (ASPHCDA) has held its first general staff meeting with the new Executive Secretary, ASPHCDA, Dr Obianuju Chinelo Okoye.
The meeting was held at ASPHCDA Office complex, Awka with a self introduction of all staff to identify their names, and Department/Unit in the Agency.
Dr. Okoye noted that the meeting was crucial as it targets identifying challenges/issues from the various departments and units in the Agency whilst brainstorming on ways to continually move the Agency forward. She commended the ASPHCDA immediate past Executive Secretary, Pharm Chisom Uchem for the efforts in coordinating affairs of the Agency.
The ASPHCDA Boss noting that she was not new to the Anambra Health System, emphasized on the need for the Agency’s team to work as a family while being guided by teachings of the holy bible which states; “help and love thy neighbour.”
# The Nigerian Veterinary Medical Association (NVMA) in Conjunction with Anambra State Dog Breeders has taken a significant step towards delivering quality dog welfare and health care in Anambra State.
Rising from a One- day first ever ” Dog Show”, which featured free anti-rabies vaccination in Onitsha, participants underscored the need to sustain the initiative for a healthier rabies free dogs.
The event themed “Dog, Man’s Best Friend” brought together dog owners, veterinarians, breeders, dealers on dog products from across the state and beyond.
Declaring the Show Open, Director, Veterinary Services, Ministry of Agriculture, Awka, Dr Mrs Rose Basil Ejidike, emphasized the importance of vaccination, describing rabies as a fatal but preventable zoonotic disease.
# The Executive Secretary/Chief Executive Officer of the Anambra State Health Insurance Agency (ASHIA), Dr. Ezeka Augustine Uwaeme, has received a delegation from the Awka Catholic Diocese on behalf of Catholic mission hospitals in the state.
The meeting, which was held at the ASHIA office in Awka, was aimed at addressing issues relating to service delivery.
Speaking during the meeting, the Vicar General of Awka Diocese, Rev. Fr. Chudi Peter Akaenyi, said the visit was to discuss and resolve the issues surrounding the delisting of St. Joseph Hospital, Ekwuluobia from the Agency’s healthcare provider network and then explore better ways of strengthening collaboration between the mission hospitals and ASHIA in serving enrollees.
Also speaking, Fr. Barnabas Okafor from Ekwulobia Diocese expressed displeasure over the delisting and called for improved understanding and cooperation between both parties.
Responding, Dr. Ezeka explained that ASHIA remains committed to providing quality and affordable healthcare services to its enrollees, stressing that any healthcare facility found wanting in service delivery would face sanctions or possible delisting depending on the severity of the issue.
